Best Survivor Series Matches

1987:
1988:
1989:
1990:
1991:
1992:
  • Bret Hart Vs Shawn Michaels - WWF Championship - 4 ½* - 5 years before the Infamous Screwjob, these men would put on a great match between each other when they were still quite young and up-and-coming in the business for the WWF Championship. Honestly, 1992 is a weird year because many of the top WWF stars would leave the company ushering in a new era of younger stars – and knowing that the future will involve these two is a very good thing.
1995:
1996:
1997:
1998:
1999:
2000:
2001:
2002:
2003:
2004:
2005:
2006:
2007:
2008:
2009:
2010:
2011:
  • Dolph Ziggler Vs John Morrison (United States Championship) - 3 ½* - Great opening match to this PPV, the hot MSG crowd, the abilities of both wrestlers just help kick this show off in the right way.
  • CM Punk Vs Alberto Del Rio (WWE Championship) - 3 ½* - The start of Punks 434 Day WWE Championship reign. The Madison Square Garden crowd absolutely loved Punk on this night – and he repays the favour by celebrating with the crowd after the match.
  • John Cena & The Rock Vs The Awesome Truth (R-Truth & The Miz) – 3 ½* - In early 2011, The Rock returned to WWE after 6 ½ years to host Wrestlemania 27 and to also start his feud/build to his match with Cena at Wrestlemania 28. For a strange reason, John Cena decided to choose Rock as his tag team partner at Survivor Series. To make sure the Rock didn’t have any ring rust before he returned for his big fight with Cena at Wrestlemania 28 they set him up in a tag-team match where he would team with Cena and face the top heels on Raw – The Miz & R-Truth. It was almost like Rock hadn’t left WWE because he didn’t miss a beat and the crowd still absolutely adored him.
2012:
2013:
2014:
2015:
2016:
  • Noam Dar, Rich Swann & TJ Perkins Vs Ariya Daivari, Drew Gulak & Tony Nese - Survivor Series 2016 - 3*
  • The Miz Vs Sami Zayn - 3 1/4*
  • Team Raw (The New Day (Big E, Kofi Kingston), Enzo Amore & Big Cass, The Club (Karl Anderson & Luke Gallows), The Shining Stars (Epico & Primo), Cesaro & Sheamus Vs Team Smackdown (American Alpha (Chad Gable & Jason Jordan), Breezango (Tyler Breeze & Fandango), The Uso's (Jey & Jimmy), The Hype Bros (Mojo Rowley & Zack Ryder), Heath Slater & Rhyno - 4 1/4*
  • Brian Kendrick Vs Kalisto - 3 1/4*
  • Team Smackdown (AJ Styles, Bray Wyatt, Dean Ambrose, Randy Orton & Shane McMahon) Vs Team Raw (Braun Strowman, Chris Jericho, Kevin Owens, Roman Reigns & Seth Rollins) - 4 1/2

Nothing important ever happens at Survivor Series

I admit, we had a good main event match last year(not that squash, the SurSer Men's Match), but something tells me it is gonna be a filler PPV again.

Specially since I think Jinder is almost guaranteed to fight for the WWE championship at the show ( rematch if Nakamura wins or another title defence), and Brock will not be there.

Yeah aside from last year and like in 01 and 03 SvS has never really been important.
If you believe in magic and I hope you don't, you always have somebody that will and won't :D.
SVS '14 was pretty significant.

Remember when the Authority was back in less than two months and even inserted Rollins in the WWE title match at the Rumble?

Ok, Sting maybe was significant, but his WWE run was like lightning: it ended before it could begin. Hel, at Sting's age, it don't should have started.

^ Yes but Seth was prepared to murder a guy!

Should Cena have let him do it?!

Eh, Eh, Eh?

(No pun intended as the victim was Canadian)

And FTR, I was apprehensive about Sting joining the Circus. 0-2 in WWE, man.

Remember that year they said they were gonna drop the Survivor Series PPVs but then backed out because it was one of the Big 4 and just kept it going

The title change was, and that event basically kickstarted the next three years of the company. But if you want to split hairs and not count that, there's still plenty that has happened at Survivor Series that renders this topic as nonsense. Off the top of my head, here are some notable things to happen at Survivor Series.

1990: Debut of Undertaker
1994: Diesel's face turn and rocket push to the top of the card
1996: Debut of Rocky Maivia
1998: Deadly Games Tournament; Rock's first WWF title win
1999: Austin car angle
2001: WWF vs Alliance
2002: Heyman turns on Lesnar; Lesnar turns face
2003: End of Austin as GM
2005: Brand Warfare; Bischoff out as GM shortly thereafter
2011: Rock's return match; Punk's 434 day title reign begins
2012: The Shield debuts
2014: Sting's first appearance on WWE TV
2015: Roman Reigns' first WWE title win

But no, nothing important ever happens at Survivor Series...

Survivor Series was a great concept in the beginning: a bunch of elimination four man tag matches, leading up to one wrestler being named Sole Survivor (hence the PPV's name).

After they dropped that format, it's just been another PPV with a rather meaningless name.

They should really bring the format back as the focus, and tie it into winner getting a title shot or something.

Technically he's 2-2. He was in a match on RAW that he won by DQ, and then that match was turned into a tag match which was won cleanly. But both his PPV bouts were losses, true.

TBF, That's the purpose of the RR and MITB, and was for KOTR back in the day.

Regardless of how things turned out afterwards, that match along with that moment was truly special IMO. It was one of those matches that reminded me why I'm a wrestling fan.

Well, sure, but the Survivor Series as a concept was stronger than any of those save for Royal Rumble, IMO. The unique set up of the teams (mixed heels and faces on the same teams in some cases, even those in feuds) and the way the elimination was handled (wherein if a team wound up winning over the others the members of that team would have to face each other) provided drama simply by being. There's a lot you can do with such a concept in terms of storytelling all in one night: new feuds started, old feuds settled or accelerated, a bunch of turns, new alliances formed, old alliances broken, etc.

Right now it's, again, handled like any other no gimmick focus no name PPV. Bring back that elimination four man team tournament format, however, and it has the potential to be among the most important PPVs as it would be a focal point for storylines.

I will say that they also need to bring back KotR the way it was originally as well, btw. MITB should be a rarely used gimmick match, not something an entire PPV is focused on.

With the brand split back, they need to do more Raw vs Smackdown 5 on 5. Have more superstars invading the other show kinda stuff.
The WWF officially put WCW and ECW out of business!!!

How is that not the most significant match in history?
7/10 for me means it wasn't really bad or really good, but resting somewhere in the middle. -hulkhogan1

Not to mention the diesel vs Bret hart title match was excellent. Even the jobber elimination match with Jannety winning was awesome. Not everything about 1995 sucked especially SvS

SvS 2002 also had Shawn Michaels winning his first world title in 5 years after his return to wrestling.

Yep, I re draw my earlier statement after some thinking. My first statement was more so thinking how the majority of the shows were more boring less so than important.

In 02,03 and 17 the whole show was engaging to some degree.

Kayfabe or not, SvS is host to one of the most important moments in WRESTLING history. Not just WWE, but wrestling as a whole; so this topic is wrong.
