CM Punk has made it abundantly clear that he has no interest in returning to a pro wrestling ring any time soon, but that doesn’t stop him from being asked about it. In a recent interview with MMAFighting, Punk was asked about Cody Rhodes, The Young Bucks, and the heavy rumors about their own upcoming wrestling promotion, apparently named “All Elite Wrestling.”

Says Punk, “I think we live in a time now where WWE is not the end-all, be-all. I don’t think it has been for quite some time.” And when asked if creating their own promotion is the right move for the former Bullet Club members, the longest reigning WWE Champion of the modern era did not mince words about his former employer.

“I think they can command their price if they want there. But if they did go there, then they’d just be another guy — just like everybody else on that show,” Punk opined. He went on to add, “It’s amazing, the more time the show gets, the less time it really seems they develop new characters.”

for a dude thats denounced pro wrestling his opinion (while 100% correct) carries very little weight with me.

when this guy decides to stop being butthurt and gets his head out of his ass and contributes to the sport once again ill take his opinion a little more seriously.
well hes right about the new characters. Heck we just saw it now with the tag match that just happened.

I don't know how anyone can say with a straight face that WWE isn't the be-all end-all of pro wrestling, at least in America.

Now, it might be more due to the fact that the McMahons are filthy stinkin' rich than the quality of the product, but still.

I don't watch non-American wrestling, so I could be wrong, but I assume it's difficult to get a significant American fanbase in places where English isn't the country's first language. I'd imagine they're like two different worlds.

I don't disagree with you. I'm just saying that having a stranglehold on only American pro wrestling, like WWE does, is still pretty significant.

Already moved the goalpost on that one. Serious answer would be along the level of Doug Williams.

In name value? Yes, it is the place I think everyone that wrestles aspires to one day being able to say they worked for WWE.

But I think a lot of that is just because WWE is the only real global promotion left in North America and still has that built in nostalgia factor we all remember from when the product was 100x better than the crap that gets turned out today.

Also I assume the security of a weekly, monthly pay check gives you piece of mind. Not saying you can't make good money as an indy wrestler but obviously it's a different world. You are the master of your own destiny as an independent wrestler. You can build a unique brand and have it take you as far as you want. Being able to name your price depending on the demand from the fans.

Meanwhile if you do the same thing in the WWE like Zach Ryder did you still are just another guy in the locker room. If management doesn't think you are worth pushing you ain't going to get pushed and you will eventually fall either further down the card and eventually off fans radar completely.

Think about if Zach Ryder at his peak from his Real Long Island Ice Z online presence became an indy guy. He probably would have made just as good of a living if not equal or better to what he was making as a WWE guy.

I think Punk is basically saying what lots of fans have said for a while now. WWE doesn't seem to know or care anymore about running a company fans actually will enjoy watching. They have their built in audience from their rich history and are just living off that.

Dislike him but he's right.

The more time they get the less they develop the characters.

Like when the teacher gives you a week to finish a project.. you don't get it done the whole week and procrastinate.. you do get it done the night before because that's your best work.

TL;DR They drag things on for 3 hours.. but when they have 2 hours they cram it in because they realize they don't have enough time.
CM punk has always been overrated. He was ugly looking, all his moves were stolen, and he was just whinny. Why is he going to be a commentary in MMA? Why would anyone respect his opinions or views on it after his last fight against Mike Jackson?

He's right, CM Punk was the last star that WWE made and will probably be the last.

Although an argument can be made that CM Punk was a star pre-WWE so I guess really John Cena was the last and final star they've made.
