Times WWE were petty about things

  3. Times WWE were petty about things
With Brock Lesnar "breaking" CM Punks record even though it's not the same title no matter how wwe spins it, what are some other past examples of WWE's pettiness towards a prior talent

Quick ones I can think of is Nikki Bella breaking AJs record, New Day breaking Demolitons record, and Randy Orton being pushed to the moon just to become the youngest world champ after Brock left.

Any others?

Basically long story short: WWE was booked for Monday Night RAW at the Pepsi Center but because the Denver Nuggets series went to 7 games and it fell on a Monday they forced Vince out and he had to make last minute plans to do RAW in L.A.

No, because it was established before WWE rented the arena that the game, if the series reached that point, would take place at that venue.

It was an error on the part of management, but the Nuggets did claim it first.

After some back and forth, Vince even appeared on ESPN to address the situation:

Eventually it was decided that Raw that night would get moved to the Staples Center, home of the Lakers. As ShadowMan pointed out, the series was Denver Nuggets vs Los Angeles Lakers and since RAW was moved to the home of the Lakers, WHILE the in the Denver arena it was Lakers vs Nuggets, this was happening in L.A.:

There was a decent amount of parodies on both sides, however.

But most of these are circumstantial, at best. Like we've no idea the reasons behind Lesnar's reign length but people have convinced themselves WWE have some kind of hate boner for CM Punk so the only reason they must have booked a 440+ was to beat Punk's 6th place placing in the longest reigns table. There's been a few like this, remember they 'had' New Day beat Demolition's record because one of them was involved in that class action lawsuit. Like if you asked Vince, would he have any idea who the longest reigning tag team champions even were?

The Denver Nuggets thing as well, maybe they thought 'lol what a situation, let's do something about it on air, make light of it all and make fun of ourselves a little bit too, people will find it funny.' Nope. People will hold it against you 10 years later

I get it. Vince feels that he portrayed his company in a negative light by using illegal substances. Wasn't the problem more the he was arrested by the police? I agree complaining about a known druggie doing drugs is idiotic (I never would have pushed him to begin with) but Vince seems more of the "do what you want, just don't get caught" type.

It's because he got caught in a bad situation. He was the world champion and that's not good PR. Taking the titles off of him was not being petty, it was trying to move past the bad publicity. As unfortunate as it was, it was totally necessary and I'm sure Rob would agree.

That's not petty that's buisness. It's about making sure competition doesn't hurt you. Like record companies only want one signed. Apple wants everyone to think iPhone is the best. Console makes sign companies to get exclusives.

They were fired because of regular budget cuts. It would've happened even without the TNA incident since they were never relevant in the first place.

I agree somewhat. I don't think Brock was originally going to beat the record since it seems he was originally going to lose it earlier (but plans changed) and now it's probablty a happy coincidence for them.

Nikki Bella and AJ I could definately see since they seemed to drag her title reign out completely unneccessary just for her to get the record and then dropped it right afterwards.

Think TNA were being...I don't know if petty is the right word. Being dicks, maybe. There was no need make a point of showing him in the first place but obviously they weren't going to be able to resist passing it up but just came across so gleeful by showing him like this was some sort of victory over WWE or something. They must have known they might have caused issues for him. I'm not sure if it did, as others have said there was other stuff going on around that time, but it certainly didn't benefit his career, that's for sure.

And the records to be broken were AJ Lee, wife of someone that they absolutely can't stand, and even AJ herself ended up leaving them that year, as well as Demolition, who had a fucking lawsuit against them. Those are pretty big coincidences to not be petty.

Probably because Cena and WWE have always been on good terms so it'd be a really fucking stupid thing to say.

So your suggesting no records will ever be beaten if the original holder is on good terms with the WWE?

I agree that New Day beating Demolitions record should not be considered petty as they were over and a great tag team.

There really is no reasoning for Brock's long reign to break another titles record and Nikki Bella who was a bore of a champion to beat AJs record

I don't know if ALL of these were pettiness.

But Brock's current run certainly feels like it. They barely ever use the guy. It seems like the only reason they've STILL got the belt on him at all is to break the record. No other reasoning really makes much sense at this point.

If that was true, why not just have someone who is actually there every week and for house shows and have them the win the belt and they can beat the record?

The belt on Brock is a business decision (if it's a good decision or not, that's up to you) but nothing to do with pettiness.

I don't think they're doing this all just because it's "best for business". Brock would draw with or WITHOUT the belt. He doesn't need it. I think they just booked him with it long enough that they just decided "lets let him keep it".

It certainly doesn't make much sense from a booking standpoint. He could have dropped it to Roman by now, and even the smarkiest smark would get it. Marks don't want Brock to have it. Smarks don't want Brock to have it. Who is it for, if not Vince at this point?

I think this just adds to the pettiness of this one. The original idea was to do a Warrior DVD, but Warrior declined and they said ok well fuck you.

It's not the fact that they booked him fullstop, but that they literally only did it so ROH couldn't book him that weekend, based seemingly on ROH releasing a figurine, despite the fact that WWE have never shown any interest in booking him before then.

Yea the Warrior DVD is definitely the ultimate example of saltiness.

Like damn, they hated the guy so much they went out of the way to put together a documentary on the guy mocking his career and accomplishments.

That's some next level shit right there.

And lol at anyone trying to suggest that the blatant efforts by the company to erase the accomplishments of former talent that are on the outs with them isn't intentional. Goddamn how blinded by WWE do you have to be?

There's nothing to refute, you believe they booked him purely to be "petty" to ROH, I do not. If you care to prove this with evidence (you mentioned facts and yet you have not provided any) then we might have a discussion on it.

Unless they made him break a contract with ROH (in which case the blame is purely on him) or they got advanced warning he was going to sign for ROH and got there first (in which case they are geniuses) then there really is no issue.

I guess Ligier didn't care enough about ROH either way.

Of course WWE knew ROH were booking NJPW talent for the show ROH/NJPW War of the Worlds, you utter numpty. If you think it's purely coincidence that the one and only time WWE bring in an NJPW talent for a one off just happened to coincide with a tour ROH were heavily relying on NJPW to promote at a time when they were in a legal dispute with ROH that ROH were winning and not a spite move, then you're a credulous buffoon.
