Why don't wrestlers have personalized themes anymore?

I mean check out this:

or this:

or this:

Or this:

Where as today everyone has generic guitar riffs that can be interchanged at a whim.
Like for example: Do you remember that Randy Orton used CM Punk's theme?

I mean the only guy I can think of that has a personalized theme is R-Truth and he's such a jobber you never see him. Not to mention he calls himself Ron Killings in the theme.

How cool would be if Kevin Owens took out Stephaine with a pop-up powerbomb to the ring apron and then next week came out to "Someone get Triple H, I think he might be mad at me, for turning this entire company into a travesty" it would be awesome

Speaking of awesome, next week Jason Jordan could come out to the Miz's theme and no one would notice because it would fit anyone.

I mean how much bigger would Nakamura look as a star if he had a song ABOUT Nakamura and not just a generic rift about being tough?

I suppose the shift to branding and not making any one person an ‘individual’ helps with that.

It’s arguable to say that Elias has that because of his schtick.

I guess Bobby Roode but yeah. None of them really have personalities so difficult to write a custom song about someone when they aren't allowed to have anything that distinguishes them from everyone else

I guess that's the sad truth.

I mean what interesting things could say about AJ Styles or Finn Balor...

Because it’s probably dirt cheap to pay someone like the garbage CFO$ to manufacture and mix songs on the computer than emulate 3 guitar chords.

I can agree with most of what you said, but I’d actually say that Miz’s theme is sorta personalized. He has made a career out of yelling “I’m the Miz and I’m awesome!”, so the beginning of the song starting with “AWEEEEESOME!” does make it start out as his own.

He also has made it his own thing to make himself out as an A-list movie star, so adding the “Quiet on the set!” stuff further makes it his own.

But you are right, there are very few personalized themes these days. I would add the Usos as a team that has a personalized theme. Maaaaaybe the New Day as well.

I think we're talking about the actual music.

Back 10/15 years ago, loads of wrestlers had a little soundbite added before their music. The weirdest I thought was Gregory Helms which was just Gregory Helms saying 'Gregory Helms' before his music kicked in. Not even like a catchphrase or something.

Yeah, the song itself is definitely not personalized to The Miz. The flickering of the cameras, and the “awesome” were added on later as the character evolved and changed.

Eh. I mean, they're fine when they happen (and they're good), but I don't necessarily think they're needed. I mean, Austin basically just had a riff. Rock's music was generally just a loop, as well (with a couple sound bites of his catch phrases). But they're still pretty iconic and memorable.

It just seems that a lot of songs made today don't have enough "catchiness" to have the same effect. I'd argue that Balor and Nakamura (pre-heel turn) have some of the better lyric-free themes these days.

lyrics don't mean personalised. Its a generic rock track that could be given to anyone fitting that look

Okay, that defines half of the WCW and attitude era themes. Especially WCW.

To this point, what makes characters like The Rock have a personalized theme, then? And Austin definitely didn’t. Mankind’s wasn’t. Shamrock. The Harts. Goldust. Angle. Lesnar.

The narrative that modern themes suck because they aren’t personalized pretty much kills AE themes everyone loves so much.

Yep. I'll take up the AE and especially its themes anytime in a debate, but this is a bad argument for it.

Not sure anyone is saying that. I'm certainly not. You don't NEED a theme written specifically for you for it not to suck.

Having said that, although for example Austin's music isn't 'gimmicky' for lack of a better word, I believe it was written with Austin in mind and did perfectly fit his character. AJ Styles has got perfectly good music but it would fit anyone as well as it fits AJ.

Quiet on the set and Awesome is personalized but the music isn't

Miz could have that same intro and then follow it up with the Bashams theme and it would work because it's all interchangable

AJ Styles has said....and it’s very easy to find on YouTube....that his theme wasn’t made for him. It would have been assigned to pretty much anyone from NXT. But they got his input and knowing that he likes hip hop they gave him this one

2 of the 4 examples I gave weren't from the Attitude Era... No one even mentioned it nor did they mention how generic themes are better in the AE than they are today..

Edit: In fact HBK's personalized theme predates the AE too... so literallly only 1 example came from here.

You're just talking shit and are too cowardly to admit it when called out.

But people aren't allowed to respond to shit you actually directly said....

Oh.

I did get the impression the song was written first and then the gimmick was built around it but I didn't know if was written for someone else.

Mind you, there's actually quite a few songs that you could be forgiven for thinking were written for someone but weren't and still fit perfectly like Real American, Kurt Angle's music, all 300 people who have used 'Somebody Call My Mamma'

Yeah ok..

You cut the rest of my post out to respond to one sentence. You did that. If you wanted to respond to everything then you should have done that. You got shot down then changed your argument. But sure, I’ll play along. It will be fun to see how you try to get around it this time.

Why don't wrestlers have personalized themes anymore?

Anymore implies they did at one point in time.

Where as today everyone has generic guitar riffs that can be interchanged at a whim.

And then there is this, which describes the Attitude Era, and is a valid example of how it’s not an “anymore” thing and has been like that for a long time.

Oh, and this:

You’re incredibly full of shit. You didn’t “call” me on anything, you just exposed yourself.
