I find both are fine most of the time, but both have quirks I hate.

Am I supposed to believe that in the middle of a fight a person is going to mug to the same exact camera, in the same exact way, at the same exact time (usually right before commercial) in every single match? Immediately takes me out of the show. We all know the writing, commentary and wrestling suck but the production doesn't get nearly enough hate.

I mean, I love NJPW, but it's hard to argue that on a technical level, it "looks" better than WWE. The lighting, the cameras, the stage, the motion graphics, the production values, etc. WWE "looks" like a big deal.
But, the problem I, personally, have with that, is that it's simply too much for the average WWE show. WWE wants every show to look like this big huge spectacle, but the average episode of Raw and SD is subpar and lackluster, and it sometimes feels like they're constantly throwing all these production values at shows that don't really deserve them. Which, in turn, also kinda makes the PPV events look and feel less special, because they just look like another episode of TV. I dig NJPW's less "produced" look, because on some level, wrestling is supposed to be "gritty", it should feel more like a cool rock show, rather than an overproduced Justin Bieber concert.

I thought the WK12 production looked good, it certainly didn't look like some cheapo promotion or anything. Only thing I didn't like was that the crowd in the higher seats was blacked out. I know people usually like the ring to be what is lit up cause that's the focus, but when its your biggest show of the year you should show the crowd.

NJPW's production isn't bad. I like it for the reasons Meltzer mentioned. However the show didn't feel as big as a regular wwe show

It's definitely annoying how wrestlers position themselves unnaturally to the camera during promos like it's a stage show rather than them doing whatever and having the camera follow them.

In that case, I suppose all actors should never care about making their performance look as real as possible because it's fake. I guess cinematographers and directors should have everyone play to the camera and stand in awkward positions so everyone can be seen on camera at once.
If wrestling is supposed to be a good TV drama, then the production and realism has to be better than what it is. WWE can still be over the top but a lot of stuff they do is just terrible and there's no excuse for it. No GM office, no true backstage, everyone is positioned right in front of the camera.
Yes, wrestling does still look fake but I don't even think it's supposed to look like a real actual fight. It takes place in it's own fictional universe where these super men and women can do these crazy moves against each other.
People love a great show that they want to get lost in. NJPW does a better job of getting the viewer caught up in the fictional drama. And yes, Jericho and Omega should have done a better job with the hits at the beginning.
