Roman Reigns' loss at WrestleMania 34 was one of the biggest headscratchers in recent WWE history. While many fans were delighted to see him lose, it felt like WWE abandoned a long-term plan.
As it turns out, that may have been what happened. Dave Meltzer of the Wrestling Observer Radio discussed what happened that night in the Superdome. “Vince McMahon had a one-year plan and it involved Brock beating everybody with one F5 and then at WrestleMania he would hit on one Roman and Roman would kick out and spear him and win," said Meltzer. "That was the plan all the way up to a week before Mania when I guess Vince was surprised Roman got booed so Vince said, ‘I’m changing my plan!'” Without question, WWE made a point to make Lesnar's F-5 be the equivalent of an atomic bomb. A salient data point in this trend came when Lesnar disposed of Braun STrowman with just one F-5 at No Mercy. But at WrestleMania, Reigns ate several F-5's, and to the surprise of everyone, didn't kick out of the fifth. Rumors say WWE audibled off of Reigns' victory in the week preceding 'Mania while more ambitious rumors say that WWE created the impromptu finish in the middle of the match. By now the only thing that is certain is that Reigns is not Universal human. “They decided to keep the title on Brock Lesnar and do an absolutely stupid storyline where Roman Reigns would claim he’s being screwed by the authority and that’s why he’s not champion. Even though if you watch the show he’s been beaten repeatedly. So as viewers we’re supposed to believe that in real life they’re not letting him become champion and we’re supposed to sympathize with him. If you’ve watched the show you know this hasn’t worked and I don’t know if it’s going to work.” As Meltzer mentions, Reigns blamed his pair of April losses (the other coming at the Greatest Royal Rumble) on corrupt authority. This finger pointing hasn't done much to endear him with WWE's fan base and based on his last RAW appearance WWE may have scrapped that character trait. For now, Reigns will work with Jinder Mahal—one of WWE's purest heels. This is a significant point to underline, because fo the most part, Reigns rarely fights true bad guys. Instead, WWE has paired him with names that dilute to love for Reigns. John Cena, AJ Styles, even Brock Lesnar take away from Reigns popularity when they share a ring with The Big Dog. However, with Mahal, Reigns has the chance to monopolize love from the crowd. So far, it looks like Reigns and Mahal have working chemistry. Their match at Money in the Bank will be a great litmus test for Reigns' character. But if Reigns is still rejected—in favor of Mahal—then WWE will have some serious questions to answer. I do agree on one major point in the article. Roman kept claiming to be a victim yet literally got his ass whooped at Mania and then got yet another chance he screwed up again at. So how exactly would he be getting screwed over? It just didn’t make any god damn sense.
And Reigns mentioned the screwed by authority again thing on RAW 2 weeks ago so I don’t see how it’s been thrown away. |

Not that he was getting a second chance at the championship, he was fine with that because he got a second chance at lesnar. He was pissed that lesnar was sticking around because he thought the WWE would finally be rid of him, he was pissed that he was being thrown into random matches and only finding out about it after the fact on twitter like the fans did. He thought as a loyal employee he should've been given the details of what he had to do at work beforehand and felt he was being disrespected by Vince and everyone running the show, especially since they'd always come to him in the past and given him the information he needed to do his job. He was then pissed again because he was taking it to lesnar in the cage match and doing decent and then speared him through the wall of the cage and it was played up as Roman having hit the ground first by rolling, but the ref didn't see it, so he'd effectively been "screwed" in that sense. This was all in kayfabe naturally, since we all know he's obviously on a pretty good push even if he doesn't have the belt. |

The problem is that even as a "loyal" employee, Lesnar resigning has NOTHING to do with him and he has no right to know who the WWE are signing and not resigning (obviously the real angle was Reigns complaining that they changed the finish because Lesnar decided to resign and he was annoyed about it because he thought he'd finally be rid of the man who had constantly kicked his ass and thus wouldn't have to face him again). And while he may have had a slight point about being forced into another match with Lesnar without his knowledge, it was still another title match he had no rights to be in since he'd lost again the previous night, so the authority "screwed" him by giving him more opportunities? As for the finish, that was always going to be trouble, since it now seems clear that Roman didn't get both feet on the floor due to the ring apron, so he can't even use that excuse of bad refereeing (at most it should either be a flat draw, or an instant reply showing Reigns losing). But in the end, it's just another pathetic attempt to get Roman over, and will fail just like all the rest have,

If I know my hometown, chicago I'm 90% sure they will just boo them both. This is a "End this match" situation waiting to happen, and when it comes to them I wouldn't wish a hostile chicago crowd on my worst enemy. WWE marching them out at money in the bank to die.
Also, far be it from my nerdy ass to tell others what to do with their money, but what's so great about paying to hear meltzer? Can't you wait the half hour till his podcast/whateves is all over the internet? Just super saiyan...
