- Why does everyone hate Dave Meltzer?

Well, apparently a lot of people hate Dave Meltzer and I'm not sure why.
I mean, ok he runs a podcast and newsletter or whatever. And if you don't like what he says, then why not just stop paying attention to him? Constructively speaking, how is he hurting the wrestling business? I might've missed something here

He's been wrong a lot with the excuse that "plans changed" and thus lost credibility with the IWC at large.

I don't hate him. I honestly don't have a strong opinion about him. I think he's probably the closest thing the wrestling business has to an independent journalist, I think he has a pretty good understand of the industry, and I think he at one point probably had some legit source or sources in the WWE because he could occasionally break a story.
I mostly laugh at the nerds who act like his word is gospel, and who don't admit that he's wrong as often as he's right and that he guesses most of the time. I also honestly don't know how anyone can pay for his information. Like shit, WWE itself isn't worth $9.99 to me it's so awful. There's some idiots out there willing to pay $10.99 to listen to someone else TALK about WWE? And guess most of the time at that?

You'd think WWE would find out who's leaking information and simply fire them.
Then Triple H can hammer it home by telling everyone on the creative staff that they will be immediately fired too if they ever talk about storyline ideas to the outside world. . |

This. These days he is no different than if you or I were to write our conjectures about wrestling. He's got friend in the biz and has been a reporter for years, but it seems like he doesn't really have a legit "source" backstage, anymore. His batting average is super low now.

I shit on him all the time and its mostly part of the schtick. hes usually right on rumors and a lot of the hate for him actually stems from other dirtsheets posting what he says and either taking it out of context or adds their own spin.
his nuthuggers on the other hand are another story. meltzer is a smart man and he has learned a lot from the business and he works them like the marks they are. he has them twirled around his finger. |

Dave Meltzer is not a reporter or journalist. That's insulting to real reporters. The way he deals in rumor and gossip I'd say he's more of a blogger or tabloid writer. Also, I don't hate the guy I just think he's full of shit and it's fun making fun of him.

His match ratings are hella annoying and his opinions almost don't make sense or contradict themselves. As I've said before though my friends a mark who subscribes. He lets me use his account and I'll say some of those Alveraz shows are hilarious.

People hate him like they hate WWE. He's so far from his prime but it's either him or alot worse for the most part. I don't know why they get so mad over wrong predictions though. Who wants to know the winner beforehand? It's 1 thing looking for injury info or dates but you want to know who will win that day to then buy the ticket?

His bias for Japanese wrestling is blatent, and that's not how real reporters operate. If a match takes place in Japan, add 2 stars for the same match if it took place in the USA.

I don't personally read his website or pay attention to what he says. The main reason I know about it is from Conrad Thompson's podcasts with Bruce Prichard and Tony S. He always references Dave's opinions of old matches.

Possibly his information became too vague or unreliable.
More likely, as an oft-mentioned name who's made a success of himself, he is a natural target of hatred for people on forums, let alone WRESTLING FANS on forums.

If anything, this board should love Meltzer for overrating the hell out of WWE matches. Gargano/Almas definitely wasn’t a 5 star match, and Roman Reigns has more 4+ star matches than most active in-ring competitors across the globe.

I respect his knowledge of wrestling history and I can agree with him plenty, but he has some laughable opinions and standards.
Hulk/Andre got negative stars then was changed to 1 star. Meanwhile Dave defends the dumbest kinds of wrestling (dick spots, slow mo wrestling, and other dumb indy shit) because "they put smiles on people's faces and entertained them" which Andre/Hogan apparently didn't do even if it's one of the most famous and beloved matches in wrestling history. Plus he's a total weeb when it comes to wrestling.

I can’t take a user with the name of “Southernfatman” seriously. I can just tell that you watch Raw and Smackdown religiously every week from your trailer, can’t even afford the WWE Network, never watched another promotion besides a little TNA here and there, and use the term “weeb” as racially-charged insult.

WWE fans "hate" Dave Meltzer in the same way that they "hate" CM Punk. Everyone likes them, they're just desperate for their approval and they aren't going to get it so they act out. It's why you'll see someone complain about HBK/Undertaker's ****3/4 rating for a decade straight and then swear that they don't care about his opinion in the same sentence.

Once upon time he had moderately fair opinions but they've just been fucking terrible as of the last few years.
Also, he does not seem like the nicest person. He's the type of guy if he were a superhero, You'd be rooting for the Orphan-beating, Nun-Gasolining, Genocidal Villains he came up against.
