It's actually against the law for an American Flag to touch the ground in America.

Granted, the law is never enforced, unless it's a mass flag burning, but still.

People are way too sensitive about the most trivial things.
I love how most of them only care the American flag was on the ground.

Also, they can get over it, flags are like $10. It's not like we have 1 flag in this country. They're not that sacred.

Did you read the actual results of the trial, or just glance at Wikipedia?

Being arrested for burning a single flag in protest was ruled unconstitutional, but the entire Code wasn't thrown out.

Plus, burning a flag can still be viewed as an act of terrorism, which will defintely get you arrested.

Just because that particular section of the law was thrown out, doesn't mean cops won't find a way to get you punished.

I supported my stance, you have not. Read that..

In United States v. Eichman, which was decided exactly 25 years ago, on June 11, 1990, the Supreme Court once again ruled that burning the flag was an example of constitutionally protected free speech.

Care should be exercised in the handling of the flag, to protect it from becoming soiled or damaged. However, you are not required to destroy the flag if it touches the ground. As long as the flag remains suitable for display, even if washing or dry-cleaning (which is an acceptable practice) is required, the flag may continue to be displayed.

You gotta remember that in America, there are groups of people who get huge patriotic boners over the littlest things, and if you so much as question any of it, you'll often be told to get the fuck out of the country.

Honestly, maybe Rusev should have won and burned the flag on stage. Can you imagine the national heat that would have generated? Of course, knowing this country, somebody would try to assassinate the guy.

From what I understand the "Flag Code", which includes the "rule" that a flag should not touch the ground of become soiled, is just a guideline, and not a law.

Part of that code is also the idea that the flag, or it's image, should not be used on clothing, other than military and police/firefighter uniforms. So all those people complaining about it hitting the ground should probably get rid of all the USA t-shirts, doo rags, beer cozies, etc.
Sad!

I didn't see the match, was it really an American flag? I know there are places where they'll remove a stripe or a star from decorative flags, so it's technically not an American flag, so they don't have to take it down or illuminate it at night. Wouldn't surprise me if they did this, since they had to know it might be as issue for some.
It's just a fucking flag you hicks.

folks keep bringing up what happened with other flags

other flags are not American flags

other flags don't represent the most vital stretch of land on planet Earth as it pertains to the progress of mankind as we've come to know it.

other flags didn't fight for its freedom, and subsequently YOUR freedom, from the british and other various crazed, overzealous countries who overstepped their boundaries

other flags simply don't mean as much to humanity as Old Glory. even if you are not American and can't identify any 1 of the 50 members of our Union on a US map, you are still forever in debt to the degree of liberty this nation has granted you and yours, and the least we can all do is prevent that precious symbol from touching the ground it protects.

thank you.

Personally, I don't care. Yeah, I get it. It's the symbol of our country and stuff. Context is important, though. Did you throw the flag on the ground and then stomp on it, or did you drop it by mistake? It's a silly thing to get upset about.

First of all, the flag didn't fight anything. Second, we won our independence from England, with a HUGE amount of aid from France, because they like trolling England. Eventually England decided it wasn't worth the expense, after having a;ready been nearly bankrupted by the 7 Years War (and it can be argued that England didn't "overstep it's boundaries". England had just basically fought a war, in the Colonies, to defend the colonists, who then balked at having their taxes go up to pay for said war, when previously they were the least taxed people in the empire. The English honestly gave them a TON of slack, repealing unpopular taxes and trying to find a compromise, then finally put their foot down after the Boston Tea Party, and them destroying the modern day equivalent of a couple million dollars in property.

As far as "other flags" not fighting for "your freedom"... I suppose the English didn't also fight in WWII, or Russia, for that matter (who really won the war in Europe more than the other allies)

TL/DR version, open a history book sometime, for the love of God. I love my country, but let's not pretend we're some beacon of perfection and the only voice of freedom in the world.

Dude.... I'm 100% born and raised American and even I don't fully understand this whole flag issue some people are bitching about.
Looking at the story line, they had an American good guy (Cena) trying to stop a guy who literally refers to himself as the "Bulgarian Brute" (Rusev) who is the one who KICKED CENA IN THE FACE, CAUSING CENA TO DROP THE AMERICAN FLAG during last night's match. Why? Because Rusev is a BAD GUY..... that's an important element in the STORY LINE. In the end, the good guy American (Cena) succeeded and beat the self-proclaimed "Bulgarian Brute".

Looking at it, it's a pretty good story line which has a credible villain who was a LEGIT threat (which is a good thing for the story), but in the end, after a hard fight, the good guy prevailed and the American flag rides high.
Sounds pretty damn good to me.
I don't see anything wrong with it.
And yes, there have been movies where they have done WORSE to the American flag. Hell, I vaguely remember an episode of the old G.I Joe cartoon where they took down the American flag and replaced it with the COBRA flag. But in the end, the good guys come back and win..... it's CLASSIC storytelling.... no reason for anyone to get upset.

Honestly, the americans who constantly try to call themslves patriots have tons of mental problems. They get so upset over a piece of cloth. It's quite pathetic tbh.

It's actually against the law for an American Flag to touch the ground in America.

Granted, the law is never enforced, unless it's a mass flag burning, but still.

Its also a law in Alberta Canada that when you get released from prison you must be given a gun and a horse to ride out of the country with.

We all have stupid laws that people get too worked up about. Just try and enforce the basic human rights ones instead of just worrying about all those dumb laws passed by our forefathers.

I didn't see the match, was it really an American flag? I know there are places where they'll remove a stripe or a star from decorative flags, so it's technically not an American flag, so they don't have to take it down or illuminate it at night. Wouldn't surprise me if they did this, since they had to know it might be as issue for some.

Actually this is a good point. I mean, the flag on the floot doesn't bother me but like others have stated, I could see people getting upset with the WWE. Perhaps it was a Modified American Flag? Like, a stunt flag. One that they knew could get away with letting it hit the floor because its missing a stripe or a star or two but nobody paid close enough attention.

Im sure this is something that can be confirmed by pausing the match and counting the stars and stripes

There are a bunch of really weird laws in some small US towns. This is my absolute favorite... in Waynesboro, Virginia, a woman cannot drive up Main Street without her husband walking in front of the car waving a red flag.

In some places of Missouri, you can't have a beard more than two feet long.

Texas is trying to have a law where you can not be driven to an abortion and the person who drives you can be tried as an accessory. ( I have no idea if it is passed and if it was enforced but we have some laws that are made just to circumvent Federal Laws and SCOTUS rulings)

other flags didn't fight for its freedom, and subsequently YOUR freedom, from the british and other various crazed, overzealous countries who overstepped their boundaries

other flags simply don't mean as much to humanity as Old Glory. even if you are not American and can't identify any 1 of the 50 members of our Union on a US map, you are still forever in debt to the degree of liberty this nation has granted you and yours, and the least we can all do is prevent that precious symbol from touching the ground it protects.

Scotland hasn't been a country since being part of the UK, just like every former country that still makes up the UK. However, most countries don't like their neighbor(s) or have some type of rivalry with them.

Canada has an inferiority complex to America but's (mostly) superior to America
Ireland has an inferiority complex to the UK but you could argue which is better
New Zealand has an inferiority complex to Australia but it is WAY inferior to Oz. Oz FTW!
Denmark vs Sweden. Pretty equal but I'll take Denmark. I like Norway over both though.
Croatia vs Serbia. Croatia wins in a landslide.
Russia vs Ukraine. I much prefer Ukraine.
Japan vs China vs Korea? Japan wins.
Latin America and its million beefs? Let's not even start

I can go on and on. The end result regardless is, lol America.

      1. It's not illegal to let an American flag touch the ground. It also doesn't necessitate the destruction of the flag...as long as it remains properly displayable, there is no need to destroy it.

      2. Burning a flag is not always an act of protest. In fact, burning is the preferred method of disposal for a flag that has become tattered or otherwise no longer in displayable condition.
