I never really saw that reaction were the crowd popped for a heel till stone cold came along. I'm sure it had happened earlier than that to other wrestlers, but i don't think it was on the magnitude of Austin.

Popular chars made heel without good cause Heels having more freedom to show character Wrestler being charismatic enough Vince want invincible faces to be underdogs but the heels end up underdogs Heels get boo'd just fine at times.

To be honest I think it started with the NWO. I remember they were supposed to be heels but they were blatantly trying to get fans to cheer them and be cool.
