@WWERoadDogg How much lower will WWE go? First they got rid of the custom sets for PPV's, now they're getting rid of pyro. What's next?

"lower"? Are these things a "low" down move to you? It's just economics and neither are necessary

Nah, what's done is done man. All I'm saying is that little things like that can help resonate, but not necessary.

I agree. In 3 months it'll be the norm and no one will care, that's our current society. Pyro in a Wrestling show isn't a priority in life.

Plus it'll make it when they do have custom sets and pyro that much more important.

Also, they've been using pyros for years now, and all of a sudden, they're "unnecessary"? They've been an integral part of their programming, Superstars entrances, and getting the crowd pumped before the show begins.

I can understand it being a cost-cutting measure (as if they're not a million dollar company), but it seems so out of the blue to me.

Q2 financials come out this month. Q1 had Mania and they only netted a little over $1m in profit. I'm expecting that they really have to cut costs.

I see. Very well. Maybe they should get their priorities straight and stop paying celebrities with little relevance to wrestling to be on their show.

Another thing I've noticed is that they don't even show the respective brand's openings anymore. It just goes straight to the arena typically followed by some guy walking out and cutting a promo.

Just picture this. You're getting rid of the opening, and now the pyros. How the hell are you suppose to get the crowd pumped up now?

Of course neither are necessary, but custom sets would really help all these filler brand specific PPVs feel like something other than a Raw or Smackdown on Sunday night. And as far as pyros, they're one of those things that makes the live experience cool compared to watching on television. And like someone said, pyros for certain guys makes it seem like a bigger deal when they show up.

The thing about both is that it enhances the experience. You don't want a dull presentation. It's why entrance music became a staple in the 80s. Entrance music isn't necessary either but choosing not to use any across the board would make the shows less entertaining and presentable. Such as early Royal Rumbles when entrants came in to silence. Doesn't have the same feel and impact as later Rumbles do.

One of the best things about WCW's height is the amount of effort they put into their PPV presentations in terms of set design and pyrotechnics. They went above and beyond for some of them like Halloween Havoc. It may seem inconsequential to some but others appreciate having a spectacle along with the in ring product. It makes for an all around better viewing experience.

Agreed. Spectacle matters. It has always and will always matter. Especially when the product is fake fighting. It's why the Colosseum was made to look so impressive. Because two people fake fighting in a sand pit wasn't nearly as entertaining as when you added effects and a stage big enough for elaborate entrances.

I miss the custom sets. I always used to be so so excited seeing them. I find it hard to differentiate PPVS now. Like I will always remember an old backlash cause of the hooks, or the armageddons or judgments days because of the destroyed or scary looking sets. It even felt pretty unique when a RAW or Smackdown superstar showed up on a different show because of how different the sets looked.

Now RAW ppvs look like RAW. The Led screens just show a different logo. Even then during entrances all the screens get changed to superstar specific things so the entrances look exactly the same on every show.

The fact there is so many shows now and they all look the same, mainly just becomes a big mesh in my head.

Over the 4th of July weekend I took my wife and kids to see a fireworks show that some business paid for. We saw the technicians setting up earlier in the day and asked if they didn't mind how much a show costs.

He said they'd be putting on a 15 minute show, and the business paid $20,000 for it. So it came down to basically a little over $1,000 per minute.

I'd imagine WWE pays whatever pyrotechnic company that they use way more than that. So I agree that it's probably too much cost for what you get.

I guess I'm in the minority here, but I don't really see this as a big deal. Don't get me wrong, I'm not necessarily saying WWE is in the right for scaling back on some of these elements, but I don't feel like it's detrimental to the overall product to not use them much.

I'd be okay if they only used pyros for PPVs and big shows. Give everything a little more "pizzazz" for the special events, yanno?

I suppose unique stages are nice, but I mean... realistically, they're something you see for a small fraction of the show. Aside from costing money to build the stuff, they also have to have people spend time planning out and designing them, and that takes time and creativity. The latter of which isn't exactly something WWE doesn't have much of, these days.
