Reigns is way, way ahead of Goto.
For all the venom spat at him for being the guy and "stealing" Bryan Fragileson's spot, he continually gives top notch in ring performances. I think the Naito tag is legit...pre-LI Naito though, forced into a role he isn't meant for. Reigns should be the mega heel of the company. He's a blue chipper. A legacy hire. A 6'3 long haired, blue eyed Samoan*. He shouldn't pander to fans or be an underdog babyface. There's no reason anyone should root for this privileged mega douche. He should be like Corporate Rock. Full of himself and not giving five ***** about others. |

Naito leaving on an exodus to other feds and companies and coming back as a disillusioned nihilistic chaotic heel wad the best thing to happen to his career. It wasn't just the fact that he turned heel but it was the reasoning and story behind it that made it work, combined with his character work. Reigns could get over if they did something similar minus the exodus part. Or maybe not. Fickle WWE marks gonna be fickle.

I think Meltzer has a deal with his leak that forces him to say positive things about Roman Reigns. Everybody but the fans seems to be drinking the "Reigns is a fantastic worker" kool-aid. He has been wrestling the same match since his singles push.

After he won the G1 and the fans utterly rejected it to the point they had a fan vote to get him out of the main event, they slowed his push but he was still a fixture on the cusp of the main event scene. He wrestled AJ at WK9 which is higher up the card than his match with Goto at WK10 after becoming Ingobernable. |
