"Finn balor" "aleister black"

  3. "Finn balor" "aleister black"

As much shit as wwe gets for renaming established talent into dumbass shit letting the wrestlers decide doesn't seem like THAT much of an improvement either. They seem to just go "hey lets just slap together two cool things that I want to be associated with!" And it comes off really cheesy and WAY too on the nose

Finn balor is like naming yourself Heracles hades. Sure. It's a name. But like come on. he also changed it from fergal. It's like "why not just keep it fergsl kf we're doing Irish lore anyway?"

Aleister black also wayyy on the nose. He might as well call himself satan hellfire darkness. Though I guess "Johnny end" wasn't that much better >_>

A lot of these guys didn't have great names coming in. Or they just used their real names. Maybe they didn't do that for a reason. When they finally get a chance they just do it off the top of their head.

I don't really see a problem with "Finn Balor". Finn isn't such an unusual name, like your "Heracles Hades" example.

Aleister Black admittedly sounds a tad on the nose, but it's still fine.

Is it? I've never seen or met a single person named Finn. If it's common then that's just my ignorance.

....nah even so it's still really on the nose. It's still just slapping random mythology names together. Especially since balor is sort of like the Saran equivalent or more like maybe the Titans.

Jesus is a common name in Spanish speaking countries. Jesus Diablo? That's silly.

I didn't mean that "Finn" is a "common" name, but it's not a name that's unusual enough to stick out in a weird way when you hear it.

He also started from fergal. So like, even if the name is common his own actual name is uncommon enough with the same theme so as to draw attention to it.

It'd be like someone named Goliath . Extremely common name from an archangel . Suddenly changing his name to Michael lucifer archangel. Michael is ridiculously common that you won't make the connection until someone draws attention to it.....like you just did

There's a lot more wrong with Finn Balor than his name. He's explained the Irish lure behind it. At least it has some origins. I feel like calling him Prince Devitt would be better but what do I know. How's my territory doing.
The king of old school
Fatestaykitchen 1 week ago#14
I think prince devitt is terrible too. Fergal devitt works just fine and you can explain the lore behind that if you want.

He gave a terrible explanation that concluded with "it means demon king" which is so silly.

It's like once again "David Satan means devil King" because David was a king. And Satan was the devil. That's how bad this is. >_> that's literally the level of on the nose silly.

Eh. We have guys named Bray, Braun, Roman, Baron, Dolph, etc. None of those are "common" names, but they're not so unusual that people can't accept them as names for the wrestlers in question. "Finn" is the same way. It might have meaning in Irish lore, but everywhere else, it's just a not-so-common name that's still not exactly "unusual".

Well the whole point is that people do give wwe shit for those names. I'm just saying the wrestlers aren't really doing any better at it when you really get down to it.

I probably made this seem like a grander statement than it was

I'm not sure on this but I think "hideo Itami" is something like that too. Like literally a combination of two guys names. like he came up with it in 5 seconds. His explanation is terrible though "it means warrior of pain"

Jesus Christ man. You should have just said you like metal gear

What lore? That's his actual fucking name. "that's what my parents named me." that's the lore. Also Finn is his dad's name (well Finton but he said everyone calls him Finn) as well as the whole Finn McCool thing.

Aleister Black is great because it's slightly on the nose. A name is at it's best nowadays when it's a little more extreme than a regular person but less so than a full on gimmick.

Fergal is so much worse of a name than than Finn. Imagine if Ember Moon debuted and her name was Ethel Moon instead.

Both of their names fit their respective characters pretty well, Finn Balor has Irish undetones and Black is a clear reference to Alestair's dark, gothic gimmick so I don't see the issue here.

most modern WWE names are complete ass. I agree TC.

Finn Balor sucks, but at leat the name is catchy. Alierster Black screams "edge lord master of all edginess" and I guess if they wanted a name that makes people turn the channel, then BOOM.

They nailed it!

My old usernames were pretty bad in this regard. Honestly aleister black sounds like something is id come up with. Actually back in my cringey middle school days I was actually calling myself something close to that. In real life.

This is honestly the best username I've ever had in any site and it's an extremely meta reference to a Japanese porn game. That should say something.

Roman Reigns - go away, not even the first time a WWE wrestler has used that fake surname.

Seth Rollins - Liiiitle bit on the nose. Bit of a skater/rockstar CAW name.

Dean Ambrose - Alright. Not bad. Its different for sure and kind of cool.

To be fair to WWE

1. They want to own the names as part of their brand to give them power.

2. WWE is smart in that they promote names that are easy to chant.

Balor and black are great for chants.

Daniel Bryan is far more ideal for chants than Bryan Danielson

When Sheamus was in Ireland his ring name was Sheamus O'Shaunessy because the crowd chanted "SOS" at him. When he came to WWE developental no one got that or chanted it so they just called him Sheamus
When the going gets tough, the tough go have a little cry in the corner.
