Reigns was staying on the script, until Cena unprompted started going on about how WWE is trying to replace Cena and make Reigns the guy. That promo to me showed just how insecure Cena still is about his spot.
"I'm still here because you failed." ^ Such a bulls*** line. Cena's still here because he hasn't retired yet. But he's part-time by his own decision. So if he's actively taking a step back, why is he so defensive to say he's "still here"? "If you're gonna be the top guy, you need to learn a promo." Translaton: "I'm still better than you! The company I work for wants to replace me but you still have things to work on, so even though I'm giving my spot up soon I'm still gonna protect it!" Just a bad look for Cena.

He's right tho. Roman has a Wikipedia article dedicated to the criticism he gets, he is not popular with the fans at all especially compared to other "faces" of the company
Ofc kayfabe speaking he isn't a failure as he has won more titles in 3 years then the majority of wrestlers do in their entire career but in terms of getting over with the crowd, yeah he has failed.

I think he gets bolder the longer his hair grows. I do like his hair grown out a bit like it is now though, he looks younger. He used to always have the sides shaved so short but not lately.

Working yourself into a shoot, brother. You'd be crazy to think this isn't WWE capitalizing on the rumors of Cena burying Corbin by bringing that shoot element into the feud. They have both guys everyone knows are the cornerstone, protected, top guys, etc and they're gonna milk it. Everything they said was scripted and honestly just parroting anything the IWC has said before about either of them. I 100% guarantee Roman's "forgot his line" was also scripted. It's way too convenient not to be.
They got people abuzz with it so well done since the majority of the board is buying into it. Even tho it's everything they've been saying about both guys for years. If all that wasn't enough, the commentary team gave it away with all their sudden insider terminology during the tag match.

Cena's not wrong. I'm sure he still enjoys wrestling, but Vince and company need him. Look at how terrible the ratings are and has been since Cena got hurt in like 2014 or 2015. Just a steady decline since he's been the top guy. They've swapped in and out several guys in that span, Rollins, Reigns, Bryan, Owens, and it takes part timers like Lesnar, Goldberg, and Undertaker to keep ratings barely afloat. None of those guys were able to catch an audience. Bryan was super over, but he was also consistently injured once he became champion. He came back for a couple months, then got hurt again. Rollins on top was marred by terrible booking, same for Owens. Reigns has been gifted one of the biggest pushes ever over the last few years, his only real hiccups are being busted for PED's and losing multi man matches. He gets to steamroll Styles multiple times, retire Taker, go toe to toe with Brock, headline 3 straight Wrestlemanias, and what does he have to show for it? Fans hate him, he still can't wrestle that well, this promo showed he still can't talk for s***, he just doesn't have 'it'. He's just a guy, thrown out there, because Vince has a hardon for him. Nothing more. We've seen Reigns dozens of times throughout the last 30 years. They come in, don't move the needle, fade away, get jobbed out, then released. The WWE uses up what they can, then lets them loose. Difference is, Vince has doubled, tripled, quadrupled down on Reigns when he gave up on every other guy when they failed. Reigns gets chance after chance and fans still hate him, they still boo him, they still flee TV's when he appears.
If Reigns was the guy, ratings wouldn't have declined from the moment he started his singles career.

One of Roman's big problem is that he lacks intensity in his promos. His lines tonight were good but he lacks the charisma to deliver them or the intensity to work around it. Above all else he needs to get comfortable on the mic, look at Randy Orton the guy has a monotone voice but Randy knows how to work around his less than stellar voice and still come off as intimidating. Roman just isn't confident enough to pull off a great promo. Roman has other problems too, many of which where Vince is to blame for jumping the gun on his push and refusing to bring him back down to Earth.

I agree as to Reigns forgetting his line being scripted. It lead right into Cena throwing out the promo line. That was just too convenient and gave Cena the opportunity to "s***" on Reigns. Regardless of what Cena says you know Reigns is going to win because they're still building him to be the next Cena. They'll let him lose to Strowman because it's a feud and actually a good one. Telling Cena the fans boo him, because he sucks is a bad insult, because Roman gets more boos than Cena. Are you going to acknowledge that a lot of fans hate you also, Roman?All criticisms of Reigns are valid EXCEPT the stuff about his in ring skill and workrate. The guy puts on good to great matches as much as anyone in the company and really works his ass off. He sells, he puts over guys, and he is one of the few guys who works well with ANYONE big or small.
At this moment there aren't a lot of WWE main event guys that can get 4 stars out of Braun, Bray, Finn, Big Show, Dean and Miz. Roman literally makes anyone look good.
He isn't as good as AJ, Owens or Seth, but he is definitely a top worker. For all the deserved early criticism of "Superman punch/spear spam", the guy has added the Razors edge, a lift sit out powerbomb, and a lot of good impact variations.
Also, last night was GREAT for Reigns. See, that's where you lost me. Besides Strowman this year, who has Reigns put over that he hadn't made to look like a joke already? He beat Rollins and the Authority way more than Rollins beat him, and the one clean loss only happened because of his suspension. Owens looked like an absolute joke with how he kept retaining, and Reigns beat Owens in non-title situations too. Strowman is the only one who has beaten Reigns more than Reigns has beaten him, and in most of those Strowman was STILL shown to be weaker than him, either by the post-match attack after the ambulance match or by Samoa Joe's interference being why Strowman won the LMS match.
I'll agree with you 100% that Roman has improved in the ring and has had great matches with a lot of different opponents. Roman can make matches look good, but not his opponents and their credibility. No one so far has come out of a feud with Roman looking better than they did before. Cena is wrong about "the fans decide" and he clearly does hold people back for his spot but Reigns is a failure of WWE's and his own merit.
WWE never tried to nurture Reigns in a proper way, he was thrust into ME after a protected run with The Shield, several veteran guys commented that Reigns was not ready and WWE did not listen. You had guys like Ambrose who in 2015/16 were over as hell yet jobbed out while Reigns kept getting pushed. They never made him heel, it really helped Hogan in WCW when he helped form NWO and Rocky Maivia become The Rock then again as Hollywood Rock. They had Lesnar end Taker's streak because they were going for Reigns to beat Lesnar next WM, now they have Reigns retire Taker and want Lesnar/Reigns rematch for title while Braun is more over. Plenty of guys found a character to work with e.g Dbry played the crazy guy with anger issues well, New Day turned a disastrous face run into heel gold, Rusev took that stupid Ziggler feud and made some comedy, Rollins who most expected face in a Shield break up made a good heel and Ambrose whom most expected heel made an over face plus both can play heel/face well. Reigns feels more natural as a heel or tweener not some loveable underdog. Reigns kept all The Shields cooler stuff, Ambrose/Rollins had to reinvent themselves and did better than Reigns in his easy mode push.
Cena was already over then WWE gave him the Hogan/Reigns tier push. Cena can cut a promo and has charisma, he can show personality and he has improved in ring more than Reigns. He's also a serious workholic or was. Not justifying some of Cena's things but he's not wrong. "You be ashamed I can do this part time better than you can do this full time" and "it's called a promo, took you 5 years to cut a half decent one" are valid.
You can hate Cena's booking and some if the questionable things he may have done e.g DDT on concrete but it's not like he's wrong. Reigns got humiliated there and had nothing to comeback with, scripted or not it made Reigns harder to root for. Reigns saying he won't let Cena bury him then get buried 2 minutes in is hilarious.If mercy is your aim be relentless in your mercy

Script or not, Cena always finds a way to get his personal digs in so he can protect his spot. But it's a spot he's relinquishing more and more with time. He's leaving again right after this match. So if he won't allow anyone else to look good next to him, how does this help WWE build the next stars?
