Hey guys I'm back, over the last three weeks I made a 'Essential John Cena Match Collection', 'Essential Undertaker Match Collection' and a 'Essential Triple H Match Collection' and this week I made a list of Chris Jericho's best matches that are essential to watch if you're an Chris Jericho fan. These collection of matches comes from Dave Meltzer (his matches feature his ratings for matches rated 3 1/2+), and matches that I believe are good too (these matches will be included in honourable mentions). I have also tried to add a link to each match as well, although with some matches it was difficult to get full high quality matches - videos come from either WWE Network, YouTube or DailyMotion. Also if you're into posts about Match lists and whatnot check out my other lists on this post (Matches from 2011-2016), this post (Matches from 2005 - 2010), and also this post (Matches from 2000 - 2004). Lastly, I used Meltzlers ratings as a guide but make sure to make your own opinion (or rating in this case) about the matches. Just cause he gives something a 3, doesn't mean it it isn't a 5 to you!
1995:
1996:
1997:
- Chris Jericho Vs Eddy Guerrero - Fall Brawl - 3 ¾* - One of the first matches between these two on WCW PPV, and it’s a really decent match which was recently highlighted on the ‘Cruiserweight Anthology’ Collection on WWE Network. Everyone should watch these two men put on a classic
1998:
- Chris Jericho & Eddy Guerrero Vs Chavo Guerrero Jr. & Dean Malenko - Nitro 09/02/1998 - Tag-Team Match - 3 ¾*
2000:
- Chris Jericho & The Rock Vs Chris Benoit & Triple H - Raw April 24 2000 - Tag-Team Match - 4*
- Chris Jericho Vs Chris Benoit - Judgment Day - Submission Match - 4* - These two men were some of WCW’s greatest cruiserweights and they were relegated as afterthoughts. The best decisions they made were to jump ship to WWF for greener pastures. They were taken more serious and always delivered no matter if they were competing against or with each other. This match is a brutal and faced paced Submission match, which brings out the best from each other.
- Chris Jericho Vs Triple H - Fully Loaded - Last Man Standing Match - 4 ½**
- Chris Jericho Vs X-Pac - No Mercy - Steel Cage Match - 3 ½*
2001:
- Chris Jericho Vs Chris Benoit - Royal Rumble - Ladder Match - 4 3/4* - These two would feud periodically throughout 2000 and 2001, but this time they’d face in a one on one affair for the Intercontinental Championship in a ladder match. This is one of the best one on one-ladder matches of all time and it’s just so fantastic the chemistry that these two have with each other. Albeit this another one of those brutal matches, including a fantastic Walls of Jericho on top of a ladder spot, which I squirm at every time at I see it.
- Chris Jericho Vs Chris Benoit Vs Eddie Guerrero Vs X-Pac - No Way Out - 3 ½* - By 2001, several of the WCW Cruiserweights had made the move from WCW to WWF, and they were getting more opportunities and spotlight then ever in WCW. All four of these men were former WCW stars and they got put on an underrated classic with each other.
- Chris Jericho & Chris Benoit Vs Triple H & Stone Cold - Raw 21/05/2001 - Tag-Team Match 4 3/4* - One of (if not) WWE's greatest 2 on 2 Tag Team match this match could’ve main evented any WWE PPV at that time. Austin and HHH were now working as a tag team and reaking havoc on all the wrestlers male or female at this time. This was also the way to have Benoit and Jericho gradually gain some credit as top-WWF stars.
- Chris Jericho & Chris Benoit Vs The Hardys Vs The Dudley Boys Vs Edge & Christian - Smackdown 22/05/2001 - Tables, Ladder & Chairs Match - 4 3/4*
- Chris Jericho Vs Chris Benoit Vs Stone Cold Steve Austin - King of the Ring - Triple Threat Match - 3 ¾*
- Chris Jericho Vs Rob Van Dam - Unforgiven - Hardcore Match - 4*
- Chris Jericho Vs The Rock - No Mercy - 4 ½* - Much like Kurt Angle a new-comer to WWF, Jericho whilst also relatively new had great chemistry with each other. This is one of my favourite matches of Rock, Jericho’s and really of 2001. I highly recommend everyone who sees this list watches this match.
- Chris Jericho, Kane, The Big Show, The Rock & Undertaker Vs Booker T, Kurt Angle, Rob Van Dam, Shane McMahon & Stone Cold Steve Austin – Survivor Series - Winner Takes All Traditional Survivor Series Tag Match - 4 ½* - This was the end to the Invasion feud, and honestly no one was really disappointed about that – it had plenty of months of build up but it just failed to live up to the hype because the lack of star power from the opposing side (The Alliance). But nonetheless it’s still a very fun match to watch, but most people going into this show knew there was no way Team WWF losing. Watch the unedited promo if you can find it, it will honestly make you so hyped for this match.
- Chris Jericho Vs The Rock/Stone Cold Steve Austin - Vengeance - 4*/3 ¼*
2002:
- Chris Jericho Vs Triple H - Judgment Day - Hell in a Cell Match - 3 ¾*
- Chris Jericho Vs Edge - Smackdown 25/07/2002 - Steel Cage Match 4*
- Chris Jericho & Christian Vs Bubba Ray Dudley & Spike Dudley Vs Jeff Hardy & Rob Van Dam Vs Kane - Raw 07/10/2002 - Tables, Ladders & Chairs Match - 4 1/4*
- Chris Jericho Vs Rob Van Dam Vs Kane Vs Triple H Vs Shawn Michaels Vs Booker T - Survivor Series - Elimination Chamber Match - 4 1/4* - This match is significant for two stand out reasons, one being that it was the first Elimination Chamber Match in WWE history, the other reason being that it was Shawn Michael’s first World Championship reign since 1997. Albeit that the reign lasted less than a month, it is still one of the most memorable moments in Survivor Series and Elimination Chamber history with the celebration of confetti falling from the sky for Shawn.
- Chris Jericho & Christian Vs Lance Storm & William Regal Vs The Dudley Boys Vs Booker T & Goldust – Armageddon - Fatal-Four Tag Team Match - 3 ½*
2003:
- Chris Jericho Vs Shawn Michaels - Wrestlemania 19 - 4 1/4* - Shawn Michaels was only going to return for a one match deal, thankfully he stuck around for a few more years so he could put on some of the greatest matches in WWE history. When you think of Wrestlemania and Shawn Michaels they go together like Peanut Butter and Chocolate. This match is up there with one of the best Mania matches of all time. These two men would continue a feud in 2008 for a majority of the year and I recommend people go revisit that feud as well.
- Chris Jericho Vs Shawn Michaels - Raw 21/07/2003 - 3 ¾* - This was a rematch of their Wrestlemania XIX match and doesn’t get enough attention and recognition I believe; very good match.
- Chris Jericho Vs Christian - Raw 01/09/2003 - 4* - Christian & Chris Jericho were some of the best things going on, on Raw in 2003, but it seemed like Jericho was transition into a face role so Stone Cold put him against his partner at the time Christian for the Intercontinental Championship. It wouldn’t be a long ‘face’ turn for Jericho cause as weeks passed he would revert back to being a heel along with Christian. But this is a super underrated match in both mens careers.
- Chris Jericho, Christian, Mark Henry, Randy Orton & Scott Steiner Vs Booker T, The Dudley Boys, Rob Van Dam & Shawn Michaels - Survivor Series - Traditional Survivor Series Elimination Tag Match- 4 1/4* - I really do love this match, and it’s a shame that it’s never talked about. Essentially the stipulation for this match was that if Austin’s team lost he would be fired as Raw General Manager. You really wanted the team of Jericho & Christian to finally get their comeuppance, after all they’ve done to Stone Cold throughout the year. Shawn Michaels’ ability to get you on the edge of your seat and to root for him and overcome the odds plays a huge factor in this match. The final 10 minutes of this match are honestly some of my favourite moments as a wrestling fan.
2004:
- Chris Jericho Vs Christian – Wrestlemania 20 – 3 ¾* - Christian is just such a natural heel it’s perfect, the lead up to this match featured him: trying to steal Chris Jericho’s crush – Trish Stratus, attacking Trish and then attacked his over two year tag-team partner Chris Jericho. The match is actually really good between them, they work really great with each other inside the ring, and the ending will leave you speechless.
- Chris Jericho Vs Christian - Raw 10/05/2004 - Steel Cage Match - 4*
- Chris Jericho, Chris Benoit & Edge Vs Batista, Randy Orton & Ric Flair - Raw 14/06/2004 - Six-Man Tag Team Match- 3 ¾*
- Chris Jericho, Chris Benoit & Edge Vs Batista, Randy Orton & Ric Flair - Raw 02/08/2004 - Six-Man Tag Team Match- 4 1/4*
- Chris Jericho Vs Christian - Unforgiven - Ladder Match - 3 ¾*
- Chris Jericho & Chris Benoit Vs Batista & Triple H - Raw 06/12/2004 - Tag-Team Match - 3 ½*
- Chris Jericho & Chris Benoit Vs Batista & Triple H - Raw 13/12/2004 - Tag-Team Match - 3 ¾*
2005:
- Chris Jericho Vs Batista Vs Chris Benoit Vs Triple H Vs Edge Vs Randy Orton - New Years Revolution - Elimination Chamber Match - 4 1/4*
- Chris Jericho, Chris Benoit & Shawn Michaels Vs Christian & Edge & Tyson Tomko - Raw 24/01/2005 - Six-Man Tag Team Match - 3 ½*
- Chris Jericho Vs Chris Benoit - Raw 04/02/2005 - 3 ¾* - This was the first time WWE had returned to Japan in years, and WWE were going to give them a hell of a show they put former-NJPW wrestlers Benoit & Jericho on first in a great, however forgotten Submission match.
- Chris Jericho Vs Edge Vs Chris Benoit Vs Christian Vs Kane Vs Shelton Benjamin - Wrestlemania 21 - Money in the Bank Ladder Match - 4 ½* - This match is fairly Significant as it is the first Money in the Bank match in WWE history, which featured 6 of Raws best mid-card talent at the time, but also significant in the career of Edge because it helped skyrocket him to become one of the top guys in the company for a couple of years before his unfortunate retirement. This match would become the standard-bearer for following Wrestlemania until it stopped being an annual Mania match, and became an annual PPV before Summerslam.
- Chris Jericho Vs John Cena Vs Christian – Vengeance - Triple Threat Match - 3 ¾*
- Chris Jericho Vs John Cena – Raw 22/08/2005 – You're Fired Match - 3 ½*
2007:
2008:
- Chris Jericho Vs Triple H Vs Jeff Hardy Vs John Bradshaw Layfield Vs Shawn Michaels Vs Umaga - No Way Out - Elimination Chamber Match - 4*
- Chris Jericho Vs Jeff Hardy - Raw 25/02/2008 - 3 ¾* - It’s a shame that these two couldn’t have a longer and more meaningful feud with each other, because these two put on absolutely great matches with each other. This was also the night that Jericho became a record-breaking Intercontinental Championship. The reason for the title change is because Jeff failed a wellness test, thus resulting in him also being removed from the Money in the Bank ladder match at Wrestlemania, which he was originally scheduled to win.
- Chris Jericho Vs Shawn Michaels – Unforgiven - Non-Sanctioned Street Fight - 4 1/4*
- Chris Jericho Vs Shawn Michaels - No Mercy - Ladder Match - 4 ½*
- Shawn Michaels Vs Chris Jericho - Raw 10/11/2008 - Last Man Standing Match - 4*
2009:
- Chris Jericho Vs Edge Vs Chris Jericho Vs John Cena Vs Kane Vs Mike Knox Vs Rey Mysterio - No Way Out - Elimination Chamber Match - 4 1/4*
- Chris Jericho Vs Rey Mysterio - Extreme Rules - No Holds Barred Match 4*
- Chris Jericho Vs Rey Mysterio - The Bash - Title vs. Mask Match - 4 ½*
- Chris Jericho & The Big Show Vs Batista & Rey Mysterio - Hell in a Cell - Triple Threat Match - 3 ½*
- Chris Jericho & The Big Show Vs D-Generation X – TLC - Tables, Ladders & Chairs Match - 3 ½*
2010:
- Chris Jericho Vs Daniel Bryan - NXT 23/02/2010 - This was the first ever NXT match and Chris Jericho had requested to work with Danielson because of all the buzz he had heard about him and because of matches he had seen that involved him. It’s not a long match, and neither mans best match but it was something special seeing these two face off in the squared circle.
- Chris Jericho Vs CM Punk Vs John Morrison Vs R-Truth Vs Rey Mysterio Vs The Undertaker - Elimination Chamber - Elimination Chamber Match - 3 ½*
- Chris Jericho Vs Edge - Extreme Rules - Steel Cage Match - 3 ½*
- Chris Jericho Vs Edge Vs Evan Bourne Vs John Morrison Vs Mark Henry Vs Randy Orton Vs Ted DiBiase Jr Vs The Miz - Money in the Bank - Money in the Bank Ladder Match - 4*
- Chris Jericho Vs Edge Vs Randy Orton - Raw 19/07/2010 - Triple Threat Match - 4*
- Chris Jericho Vs Edge Vs John Cena Vs Sheamus Vs Wade Barrett Vs Randy Orton - Night of Champions - Six Pack Challenge Match - 3 ½*
2012:
- Chris Jericho Vs CM Punk - Wrestlemania 28 - 3 ¾* - In one of the three main-events of Wrestlemania 28, it was slated in second position and it arguably the best wrestling match on the card; these two men would put on absolute great match with each other. A lot of people complained at the time and still now that the WWE Championship should always be the main event, and I can understand why even CM Punk himself was annoyed that this match didn’t main event Wrestlemania.
- Chris Jericho Vs CM Punk - Extreme Rules - Extreme Rules Match - 3 ½*
- Chris Jericho Vs Alberto Del Rio Vs Randy Orton Vs Sheamus - Over the Limit - Fatal Four Way - 3 ¾*
- Chris Jericho Vs Kane Vs The Big Show Vs The Miz Vs John Cena - Money in the Bank - Money in the Bank Ladder Match - 3 ¾*
- Chris Jericho Vs Dolph Ziggler – Raw 20/08/2012 – Money in the Bank Contract Vs WWE Contract Match - 3 ½*
2013:
- Chris Jericho Vs Jack Swagger Vs Daniel Bryan Vs Kane Vs Mark Henry Vs Randy Orton - Elimination Chamber - Elimination Chamber Match - 4*
2014:
- Chris Jericho Vs Bray Wyatt - Raw 08/09/2014 - Steel Cage Match - 3 ¾*
2015:
- Chris Jericho, Dean Ambrose & Roman Reigns Vs The Wyatt Family - Night of Champions - Six Man Tag Team Match - 4*
2016 (so far):
- Chris Jericho Vs AJ Styles – Fastlane - 4* - This was AJ Styles first single match on a WWE PPV, and it’s a really good one against the veteran Chris Jericho.
- Chris Jericho Vs AJ Styles Vs Cesaro Vs Kevin Owens - Raw 04/04/2015 - Fatal Four Way Match - 4* - The night after ‘Mania can be seen as a ‘reboot’ after a meh Wrestlemania. The main event featured four guys who wanted to become the number one contender for Roman Reigns newly won WWE Championship – however there would only be one phenomenal winner. However, another intriguing point of this match was that it was the return of Cesaro, who was injured and missed Wrestlemania the previous night.
- Chris Jericho Vs Alberto Del Rio Vs Cesaro Vs Kevin Owens Vs Sami Zayn Vs Dean Ambrose - Money in the Bank - Money in the Bank Ladder Match - 4 1/4* - This is also a really good Money in the Bank match which I recommend people to watch. It helps continue the ongoing almost two-year feud between Owens and Zayn. Much like their Wrestlemania Ladder match, they include flashbacks of their feud back in ROH and PWG in Ladder Matches.
- Chris Jericho Vs Roman Reigns Vs Sami Zayn Vs Sheamus - Raw 25/07/2016 - Fatal Four Way Match - 3 ½*
Honourable Matches:
- Chris Jericho Vs Cactus Jack - ECW Big Ass Extreme Bash 1996 - Night 1 - Hardcore Match
- Chris Jericho Vs Chris Benoit - Summerslam 2000 - Two out of Three Falls Match
- Chris Jericho Vs Christian Vs Rob Van Dam - Unforgiven 2003 - Triple Threat Match
- Chris Jericho Vs Rob Van Dam – Raw 27/10/2003 - Steel Cage Match
