So over the course of the last couple of weeks, I've seen a few posts asking what they've missed since they've been away, and I thought for news fans of the product if they really wanted to there should be a list of suggestions of matches for them to watch. So I decided to take the liberty of listing some of the most 'stand out' matches and significant matches in the last 5-6 years. I'll try add links to these matches so it's easier for people to access. So lets start:
2011
- The Miz Vs John Morrison Falls Count Anywhere Match - Raw, January 3 - The Miz being a former reality TV star, was given his shot as WWE Champion and got to run with it. Now if i'm being honest it's a very forgettable run with not much great defenses, but this first WWE Title match in 2011 is worth the rewatch. John Morrison is a very fitting foe for the two as they are a former tag team.
- Edge Vs Dolph Ziggler Royal Rumble – This would be one of Edge’s last matches before retirement, and it is also one of his best matches. It shows Dolph Zigglers rise as to one of the veterans in the company and also shows all his strong points.
- Cody Rhodes Vs Rey Mysterio Wrestlemania 27 – Arguably the best match at Wrestlemania that year, it is one of Cody Rhodes best matches period, and one of the last matches in Rey Mysterio’s WWE career that stands out as really good.
- Undertaker Vs Triple H - No Holds Barred Match Wrestlemania 27 - Follows on from the Shawn/Taker previous fights and continues on to the next year.
- CM Punk Vs John Cena Money in the Bank - honestly one of the most refreshing matches of WWE from all the build up leading into it
- CM Punk Vs Alberto Del Rio Survivor Series - the start of CM Punks 434 Title Reign
2012
- Undertaker Vs Triple H Hell in a Cell Match - Wrestlemania 28 - the end of an era, very fitting with Shawn Michaels being the referee as well.
- CM Punk Vs Chris Jericho Wrestlemania 28 - CM Punks only title defence at Wrestlemania, this is the best WRESTLING match on the card.
- The Rock Vs John Cena Wrestlemania 28 - "Once in a lifetime", definitely worth watching much better than their rematch at Wrestlemania 29.
- Daniel Bryan Vs Sheamus 2 out of 3 Falls Match - Extreme Rules - following a 18 second defeat at Wrestlemania 28, Daniel Bryan got to compete against Sheamus in a 25+ 2 out of 3 falls match really showing WWE audiences how great he really was
- John Cena Vs Brock Lesnar Extreme Rules Match - Extreme Rules - Brock Lesnars Return match, bloody and absolutely brutal.
- CM Punk Vs Daniel Bryan Over the Limit - two of the biggest independent wrestlers of all time, facing for the WWE Championship... I'll say no more.
- The Shield Vs Team Hell No & Ryback TLC Match - TLC - The Shields debut fight and it really proved to audiences who didn't know the three members just how great they were and how they were gonna take the WWE to greater places.
2013
- CM Punk Vs The Rock Royal Rumble - Heel Punk, End of Punks championship reign, good match with an ending most people here still haven't forgiven (me included)
- CM Punk Vs John Cena #1 Contender Match on Raw - Possibly the greatest Raw match since John Cena vs. Shawn Michaels in 2007, these two have major chemistry together.
- CM Punk Vs Brock Lesnar No Disqualification - Summerslam - The Beast Vs. The Best, two Paul Heyman guys facing each other in the co-main event of one of the greatest ppvs in the modern era.
- John Cena Vs Daniel BryanSummerslam - The main event to one of the greatest ppvs in the modern era, one of the first time Cena loses completely clean and the start of Daniel Bryans insane rise as the face of the WWE.
- Rhodes Bros vs. The Shield Battleground - This match solidified why Goldust is better in 2013 than he was in 1996, just a great match and a fond memory of both The Shield members and The Rhodes family members.
- Rhodes Bros vs. The Usos vs. The Shield Hell in a Cell - Following their match at Battleground both teams would add a third team into their match and it is the best match on that ppv.
- Sami Zayn Vs Cesaro 2 out of 3 falls Match - NXT 2013 - This 2 out of 3 falls match was heard all around the wrestling world, and quite frankly one of the reasons NXT picked up a lot of popularity really recommend you give it a watch.
- John Cena Vs Randy Orton TLC Match - TLC - pretty significant because of its unification of the WWE Championship and the World Heavyweight Championship.
2014
- Bray Wyatt Vs Daniel Bryan Royal Rumble - following Daniel Bryans face turn after two weeks of Bryan being a cult member to Bray, they squared off and what starts 2014 off as a great year for wrestling in WWE. Also the week prior to this match it gave us this moment
- Randy Orton vs. Cesaro Smackdown - Leading up to Orton's WWE Championship Elimination Chamber match he would face the five other opponents in the match, Cesaro still freshly new would actually defeat Orton clean. Great back and forth match and really proved as to why Cesaro is already a veteran in the WWE ring.
- John Cena Vs Cesaro Raw - The week following Cesaro's Smackdown win he would go onto face Cena in another great match that built up his credibility.
- The Shield vs. the Wyatt Family Elimination Chamber - This was WWE fans wet dream at the time, after months of teasing us with it they finally pulled the trigger and decided to do The Shield Vs The Wyatts.
- Cesaro Vs Sheamus Vs John Cena Vs Daniel Bryan Vs Christian Vs Randy Orton Elimination Chamber Match - Elimination Chamber - I'll be honest with you, there's been many Elimination Chamber matches, some good and some bad, in the modern era of WWE most have been pretty 'eh' to say the least, but this one gives it some redeeming points.
- Triple H Vs Daniel Bryan Wrestlemania 30 - Probably Triple H's greatest Wrestlemania match, this is anything short of a 5 star match, excellent chemistry between the two and this would be Bryan's first match of the night.
- Undertaker Vs Brock Lesnar Wrestlemania 30 - The end of Undertakers Wrestlemania Undefeated Streak, enough said.
- Daniel Bryan vs. Batista vs. Randy Orton Wrestlemania 30 - The of Daniel Bryan's chase to become the WWE Champion, and oh boys was those months of getting angry, seeing the Authority always win and complaining online absolutely worth it for this moment.
- The Shield Vs Evolution Extreme Rules Match - Extreme Rules - This was their first match in this excellent series, old dogs Vs the new dogs.
- The Shield Vs Evolution Elimination Tag Match - Payback - Rematch for the ages, absolutely on par with their first match. Very hard to choose a better match out of the two.
- The Usos vs. the Wyatt Family 2 out of 3 falls Match - Battleground - Another two out of three falls match, and honestly worth the watch as it is the opener of the PPV and probably the best match on the card.
- John Cena vs. Brock Lesnar Summerslam - Adding this match as it is completely insane to see John Cena absolutely destroyed and have little to no offence in this match, something that’s never happened in his career before.
- Randy Orton Vs John Cena Hell in a Cell Match - Hell in a Cell - This is the last time either men have compete against each other on WWE PPV, and it really is a stellar match, unlike some of their previous more duller matches.
- Sami Zayn Vs Adrian Neville NXT R-Evolution - The match that defines NXT, maybe I just favour this match because Sami Zayn is one of my favourite wrestlers, but I'm a sucker for guys who I watch in different companies make it to WWE/NXT and finally win the big one. This is probably the best NXT Takeover match as well.
2015
- Brock Lesnar vs. John Cena vs. Seth Rollins Royal Rumble — Just to go prove how good Seth Rollins from The Shield is, they trusted him enough to be put into a match with John Cena and Brock Lesnar, this match is highly regarded WWE Match of the Year for 2015.
- Brock Lesnar vs. Roman Reigns (Vs Seth Rollins) Wrestlemania 31 – going into this match it was regarded as one of the worst build ups of all times, but what came from it was a masterpiece. From the back and forth fighting from two bad asses, to the ultimate surprise at the end with Seth Rollins cashing in, it doesn’t get better.
- John Cena vs. Kevin Owens Elimination Chamber – This was in the midst of Cena’s mid-card matches for his United State championships, but this match was Kevin Owens debut WWE PPV match, and guess what.. He defeated the ‘face that runs the place’ clean nonetheless.
- Sasha Banks vs. Becky Lynch NXT TakeOver: Unstoppable – Women’s wrestling became really big in NXT, and this is one of the best examples. Sasha Banks was an already loved wrestler, but Becky Lynch.. Not so much. But after this match she was a made women.
- John Cena vs. Cesaro Raw, June 29, 2015 – This match and their match the week after are easily both some of the best Raw matches from 2015, highly recommend, one with a interference finish and one with a normal finish, highly recommend.
- John Cena vs. Cesaro Raw, July 6 2015 – See earlier post.
- Seth Rollins Vs. Neville Raw, August 3 2015 - This match was in the midst of Seth Rollins WWE Championship reign and it really goes to show his mixed abilities competing against whomever was placed in front of him. Neville, also a new up-and-comer also proved that he can go with the champ. Also for that fake-out victory win and seeing the crowd get hyped its totally worth it.
- Sasha Banks vs. Bayley — NXT TakeOver: Brooklyn – Man, this match right here. It’s hard to not say this isn’t the best match of 2015 in any promotion. I love when there’s a big pay off for a wrestler and Bayley is just such a loveable character, I recommend this match to every wrestling fan.
- John Cena vs. Seth Rollins Summerslam – This match solidified Seth Rollins as ‘the man’. For all intents and purposes 2015 was Seth Rollins year. He would hold the WWE Heavyweight Championship for a majority of it, and he would be the face of their company. Despite the screwy ending, it holds up as one of the better matches in 2015.
- Bayley vs. Sasha Banks 30 Minute Iron Women Match - NXT TakeOver: Respect – The significance of this – simply put; two female wrestlers main evented a WWE/NXT show. They started a revolution in NXT that women are meant to be treated like wrestlers not ‘toilet breaks’. After this match Sasha was fully transitioned onto the main roster and that following year at Wrestlemania she would be involved in the first bout for the WWE Women’s Championship with Becky Lynch and Charlotte.
Edit: Seems people want to see some matches from 2016 so here we go.
2016
- Shinsuke Nakamura vs Sami Zayn - NXT Takeover: Dallas - Not only is this currently my match of the year, this is currently my favorite debut of all time. I can't think of any who has ever had a better debut match in WWE.
- Triple H Vs Roman Reigns - Wrestlemania 32 - Maybe not the best match of all time, yet still significant because Roman's first WWE Championship win at a Wrestlemania.
- John Cena vs AJ Styles - Money in the Bank - 15 Years in the making. The Face of TNA and the independents vs The Face of WWE. Worth the watch.
- Seth Rollins vs Roman Reigns - Money in the Bank - Over two years in the making, just a magnificent back and forth match. Both in Seth Rollins and Roman Reigns top WWE matches.

- Sasha Banks Vs Charlotte - Raw July 2016
- AJ Styles Vs John Cena - Summerslam 2016
