Dave Meltzer Bias

Dave has never said he isn't biased, it's his opinion. It's by definition biased.
He's also never said that talent in WWE are worse than talent in NJPW or anything like that. He just prefers the presentation and ethos behind matches in NJPW.
In the 90's people liked to compare WCW's "Southern 'Rasslin'" in comparison to WWF's "Sports Entertainment". Everyone preferred one over the other.
Now, it's more "Puroresu"/"Strong Style" (or whatever you wanna call Japanese style) compared to WWE's "Sports Entertainment".
Dave has always preferred Japanese style, and that's nothing new.
As much as Edge and Christian always shill for WWE, Edge made a valid comment about WWE style. It's bombastic, over the top, has huge scale, everybody gets everything they expect when they pay. It's like an Avengers film.
Are they great? Yes. Are they the pinnacle of their genre? No.
Whereas Japanese style is all about in ring work ethic. Tell the absolute greatest, most convincing story you can, take as much time as you need, pull out as much as you can. Just make it all relevant and build to your match finish.
They're more like Logan or The Dark Knight.
It's odd because on WOR after Wrestle Kingdom Meltzer said vs. Omega wasn't the best match of Jericho's career. Then he gave it 5 Stars anyway.
Really it's just his star ratings have undergone 'inflation'. It's also obviously inconsistent that only five WWE matches got the full 5 from 1982-2017, and now for 2018 we're at four and counting.

I'm pretty sure this is bias largely due to Meltzer saying that he thinks Jericho has had better matches than the Omega one, yet it's his highest rated. Granted, it may just be that Meltzer liked the Omega match more than others but still thinks there are better bouts out there. I think Madoka Magica is one of the best anime I've seen, but I still like it less than worse shows like Love Tyrant.
