2012:
- Leakee Vs Dean Ambrose Vs Seth Rollins - FCW 05/02/2012 - A few months before these three men would debut together on WWE and become The Shield and 4 years before their Triple Threat Match at Battleground 2016 they would compete in FCW against each other in a tease for what we would get.
- The Shield Vs Team Hell No & Ryback – TLC 2012 - 4 ½* - This was The Shields debut match and it really proved to audiences who didn't know the three members just how great they were and how they were gonna take the WWE to greater places. Arguably also one of the best matches in WWE for that year.
2013:
- The Shield Vs John Cena, Ryback & Sheamus – Elimination Chamber 2013 – 3 ¾* - With Cena winning the Royal Rumble that year officials behind the scenes at WWE wanted Cena to win this match leading into his rematch with The Rock. Ambrose, Rollins, and Reigns went to Vince's office and refused to lose to Cena and really showed guts that day and really showed that were not to be messed with.
- The Shield Vs Team Hell No & Undertaker – Raw 22/04/2013 - The Shield were so over on WWE television that their entrance for this match/show was them arriving via Helicopter. It’s rare to get a match and appearance with Undertaker outside of Wrestlemania, but it’s also rare to be able to defeat Undertaker – but that’s what The Shield did, they would defeat The Undertaker & the rest of his team,
- Roman Reigns & Seth Rollins Vs Team Hell No – Extreme Rules 2013 - Roman Reigns first championship in WWE – the Tag Team Championship.
- The Shield Vs Team Hell No & Randy Orton – Smackdown 14/06/2013 - This was The Shields first loss ever in WWE, one of the most protected teams of all time and they finally took a loss in WWE after months of being undefeated.
- Roman Reigns & Seth Rollins Vs Cody Rhodes & Goldust – Battleground 2013 – 3 ½* - The following night on Raw they would have a rematch although this time it was for the WWE Tag Team Championships and they put on an equally great match compared to Battleground.
- Roman Reigns & Seth Rollins Vs Cody Rhodes & Goldust – Raw 07/10/2013 – 4* - The following night on Raw they would have a rematch although this time it was for the WWE Tag Team Championships and they put on an equally great match compared to Battleground.
- Roman Reigns & Seth Rollins Vs The Uso’s Vs Cody Rhodes & Goldust – Hell in a Cell 2013 - 4* - The Shield were on a complete role in 2013 and these consecutive matches between them and the Uso’s and the Brothers just helped further establish them as one of the best teams of all time. Heaps of people remember the Battleground match because of the story behind it, but this match is equally as great as that match.
- The Shield & The Wyatt Family Vs CM Punk, Daniel Bryan, Cody Rhodes, Goldust & The Uso’s – Raw 18/11/2013 – 3 ¾* - Really fun 12 man match leading into Survivor Series 2013, highly recommend for a fun rewatch as well as it pre-shadows the future Wyatt/Shield matches.
- The Shield & The Real Americans Vs Cody Rhodes, Goldust, The Uso’s & Rey Mysterio – Survivor Series 2013 – 3 ½* - This was the match that really helped show the audience that Roman Reigns was going to be the breakout star of The Shield as he singlehandedly eliminates almost all members of the opposition team and becomes the sole survivor. Really goes to show how much The Shield have done since joining WWE one year before this.
2014:
- 30 Man Royal Rumble Match 2014 – Royal Rumble 2014 - Batista made his infamous return in 2014, and people knew either him or Bryan were winning it. However, when Bryan wasn’t even put in the match, the crowd turned on Batista completely. Roman Reigns entered this match and set the new record for most eliminations in a Rumble match. He was absolutely loved, and was heavily cheered over Batista.
- The Shield Vs The Wyatt Family – Elimination Chamber 2014 – 4 ¼* - This match was highly anticipated even since the NXT days in early 2013, may people were so hyped for it. So when the Wyatt Family debuted in WWE in mid-2013 people were waiting for initial match off between the two. After months of teasing it, the match finally came to fruition at Elimination Chamber. One of my favourite matches from 2014 wish they would’ve saved it for ‘Mania 30, instead of The Shield getting a 3 minute match against the New Age Outlaws & Kane – however it did lead to a face turn for them.
- The Shield Vs The Wyatt Family – Raw 03/03/2014 – 4 ½* - Just like the first match, this match held up to expectations and showed us the ‘first split’ of The Shield but also lead to the boys growing stronger together.. Even if it was for a few more months. It would lead to one of my favourite segments with each other on Smackdown.
- The Shield Vs Evolution – Extreme Rules 2014 – 4 ½* - Two of the most famous WWE groups with 6 great wrestlers going at it all at the same time – a good way to show the Past Vs the Future. They would also go on to face them at the following PPV, Payback and it really showed Evolution passing the torch to The Shield.
- The Shield Vs Evolution – Payback 2014 – 4* - This would be Batista’s last match in WWE for now, hopefully we’ll see him in the future some time. But honestly, he was really disrespected on this night. Reason for that being was because he wore bright blue attire, which got the crowd and the audience to ridicule him as ‘Blue-tista’. But onto a better note, just like the previous PPV, Batista (with the rest of Evolution) would put The Shield over by making them look so dominant defeating all three members of Evolution and no members of Shield being eliminated.
- Roman Reigns Vs John Cena Vs Kane Vs Randy Orton Vs Sheamus Vs Alberto Del Rio Vs Cesaro Vs Bray Wyatt - Money in the Bank 2014 - 4* - Strangely enough, this was the start of the Roman Reigns single run push in WWE. Instead of going for his ‘evil brother’ Seth Rollins for turning his back on him, he turned to the WWE World Heavyweight Championship picture, and fighting with the Authority. He would have two attempts at the Championship within a month, but unfortunately came up short on both occasions. I wonder how people would’ve reacted if he had won the title at this point in his career if people would still be as harsh on him.
- Roman Reigns Vs Randy Orton - Summerslam 2014 - 4* - This was Roman Reign’s first single match post-Shield where he had to the ability to showcase his skills & abilities. Many people say that Orton carried him throughout the whole match – which I disagree with. Although, this may be the match that definitely got the crowd to see Roman Reigns weak links and started to get the crowd to turn on him. Within weeks, rumors started f Reigns winning the Rumble Match and facing Lesnar at Mania 31
2015:
- 30-Man Royal Rumble Match 2015 – Royal Rumble 2015 - Roman Reigns got injured in September of 2015, meaning he wouldn’t compete for the rest of the year, however he would appear on the titantron cutting heavily scripted promo’s – which rubbed people the wrong way. Rumors had been out for close to 6 months stating that Roman would be winning this match, to face Lesnar at Mania. It didn’t help that the returning Daniel Bryan would be eliminated so prematurely, it lead a choir of boo’s for Roman when he entered the match. Even bringing out The Rock to make the save for Roman couldn’t help the situation, fans were hostile and (I used hyperbole here) on the verge of rioting. With all the bitching and moaning the trend of #CancelWWENetwork trended worldwide. As Paul Heyman would say months later to Roman, He was the Right Guy, at the Right Place, but at the Wrong Time.
- Roman Reigns Vs Daniel Bryan – Fastlane 2015 – 4 ½* - To say that Roman is a bad wrestler would be a big lie and would just be fans being negative about everything about him. This match goes to prove it, Roman and Bryan worked great with each other – however I do see where the big complaint is in Roman Reigns matches. He plays the Superman role just like Cena used too, but it’s very easy to see.
- Roman Reigns Vs Seth Rollins Vs Brock Lesnar – Wrestlemania 31 – 4 ½* - This match was originally stated as 1 on 1 match but then a shocking occurrence happened – Seth Rollins cashed in his Money in the Briefcase.. in the Main Event of a Wrestlemania.. and won in which is called ‘the Heist of the Century’. This was the complete opposite of what everyone expected – very little hype/predicted ending and it completely caught everyone by surprise with how good it was. People really hated the build-up to this match with the last shot before the match being a tug-of-war for the title between Brock & Lesnar. But I believe this match helped establish Reigns as a star who could take a beating and help put on a decent match.
- Roman Reigns Vs Big Show – Extreme Rules 2015 – 4* - I know many people will just complain about Roman, and hell they’ll complain about Big Show as well, but I really enjoyed this match and glad it got the rating it did.
- Roman Reigns Vs Seth Rollins Vs Dean Ambrose Vs Randy Orton – Payback 2015 – 3 ¾* - This was the first tease of all three members of The Shield facing off against each other in a match, as well as that it allowed us to see the former members align with each other (even if it was for just a brief minute) to take out Orton.
- Roman Reigns Vs Bray Wyatt – Hell in a Cell 2015 – 3 ¾* - This long feud went for 5 months, and came to a final encounter inside the Devil’s playground – Hell in a Cell. A very underrated feud between two decent modern day WWE Superstars.
- Roman Reigns Vs Cesaro – Raw 16/11/2015 – 4 ¼* - I’ve said this exact same thing in the last couple essential match posts but I’m gonna say it again. This may be one of my favourite Roman Reigns matches (please don’t downvote me for that) these two absolutely have great chemistry with each other, and if you don’t trust me watch this match between the two.
- Roman Reigns Vs Dean Ambrose – Survivor Series 2015 – 3 ½* - If you’ve my essential lists for both Rollins and Ambrose you’d probably would’ve noticed A LOT of Ambrose Vs Rollins matches, but this is actually the first time that the other member of The Shield (Roman) would face off against Dean. It was set up perfect with Rollins unfortunate injury, a tournament was made to award the WWE Championship which saw these two meeting in the final. If you stay for an extra few minutes after this match there’s an altercation with Triple H, which leads to Sheamus cashing in on the winner of this match.
2016:
- Roman Reigns Vs Triple H – Wrestlemania 32 - Maybe not the best match of all time, yet still significant because Roman's first WWE Championship win at a Wrestlemania. After changing the Wrestlemania main event for 2 years straight, Vince McMahon knew this year there was no chance he was changing it again. This would be the start of Reigns third championship reign, but it is the most important reign of them all.
- Roman Reigns Vs AJ Styles – Extreme Rules 2016 – 4 ½* - This rematch was even better then their first encounter at the previous PPV, Payback. I feel like in a way both Reigns and Styles helped out each other in 2016. Reigns helped establish Styles as a legit top wrestler in WWE, and Styles helped establish Reigns as not only a good champion, but a good wrestler – despite the crowds loud opinions. This match also featured the return of Seth Rollins, he would continue his feud with Reigns.
- Roman Reigns Vs Seth Rollins – Money in the Bank 2016 – 3 ¾* - This was Seth Rollins return match on PPV after being away for months because of an injury and after 25 minutes he goes over the WWE’s handpicked future star (and former Shield brother) Roman Reigns – clean. In a shocking turn of events he would be cashed in on by his other former Shield brother, Dean Ambrose who would successfully capture the WWE Championship. It later came out the day later that Roman was caught using drugs and was suspended for 30 days.
- Roman Reigns Vs Seth Rollins Vs Dean Ambrose – Battleground 2016– 4* - The long-awaited Shield Triple Threat match and it was worth the wait because the match is fantastic; and really helped show how good all three men really are. However, people seemed to not enjoy the whole Raw Vs Smackdown elements in this match, but I feel like it added to the match. It made the audience think ‘which brand would the WWE World Heavyweight Champion be on?’
- Roman Reigns Vs Finn Bálor – Raw 25/07/2016 - Upon Finn Balor’s debut on Raw he was pushed very strongly, he would win a fatal-four way match to advance into a #1 Contenders match with Roman Reigns. He would then go onto defeat him clean in possibly one of the biggest shocks of the year. However, many people still speculate this was punishment because of Roman Reigns getting caught taking enhancement drugs.
