I wish he would succeed, I really do.
But he's not gonna make it big, I'm afraid. Unfortunately, he's not very safe in the ring either. Accidents happen, but his kicks to Black when Black was on the ropes were obviously unsafe. They were aimed at either his face or his throat, and true enough Black was busted open.

I never felt like Itami was "bad", but his string of injuries and his failure to evolve (pre heel turn), along with simply being surrounded by too many other talented workers that surpassed him has really made him feel like a bit of a bust.
The heel turn is helping to breath some new life into him, but even still, I think he has a pretty low ceiling whenever he gets to the main roster. I wouldn't even be surprised if he's places in the CW division when he comes up.

I think Itami still has potential for the main roster, but he definitely has had just a massive string of bad luck. If anything, the obvious storyline for Itami to have should be go to the main roster is to debut against Nakamura, since it pretty much writes itself. Have Itami claim that Nakamura "stole" his spotlight, because he was supposed to be the big Japanese star, he was was supposed to be the next big thing, but Nakamura then came in & stole it all from him: The praise, the NXT title run, the Summerslam main event, everything.
The fact that Nakamura could easily blame Itami's lack of success on just bad luck with the various injuries would just make Itami's hatred for him all the better, too.

He has just not transitioned very well. Really his entire appeal was that he was a stiff kicking a****** back in Noah. While he still shows signs of the old KENTA sometimes, it still feels very watered down. He doesn't kick nearly as hard anymore and yelling at the crowd is nothing like his old trolling personality.
Case in point:

It's a shame because he has been plagued by injuries and he has been outshined by the other Japanese wrestlers on the roster, at least he has a Mania appearance under his belt tho.

I guess it doesn't help when CM Punk steals your entire gimmick. His momentum was killed with injuries and he's on the up swing with his heel turn. I wouldn't count him put entirely. Especailly if Jinder can win the WWE title...anyone can.

A GTS is a move. Moves are always borrowed in wrestling. No one owns them. You can't put a copyright on a move.
