He's 5'6, 170 pounds. Odd looking for American TV standards.

He was regarded as an indie darling and one of the best wrestlers in the world. But he could barely talk and was socially awkward as well as a super weird guy in real life.

WWE brought him in. Buried and squashed him instead of pushing him. Renamed him, then fired him.

Then he came back, they repeatedly tried to keep him in the mid-card and job him out to guys they prefered.

But even so he got so super-over. He was so big he became the first WWE wrestler in the 21st century that WWE offered refunds for shows that he couldn't appear at due to injury after he was advertised.

Cena put him over clean, Triple H put him over clean. He got his WM moment.

When you look at the likes of Kenta, Kaval and Mistico who also had indy darling reputations flopped so hard despite WWE pushing them harder than Bryan. Look right now on TV as Nakamura is flopping before our eyes.

Look at Desmond Wolfe who was regarded almost as highly as Bryan before Bryan got to WWE. And he never even wrestled for WWE.

And just think how God damn unlikely Bryan's success story was. How easy/likely it would have been for WWE to just never hire him, or never rehire him after firing him, or be stubborn/stupid and never give into the fans and just keep him as a mid-card jobber to the stars position for a decade like Kane.

Or how easy it would have been for fickle fans to give up on him and move on like they do all the time.

But no, he made it. That's really kinda cool.

Makes me wonder if there is an alternate reality where Bryan never made it and Desmond Wolfe or Kenta is the current WWE Champion and most over guy since Stone Cold.

It's just crazy how much the 18 seconds thing backfired on WWE. Due to the circumstances that would follow, that basically went down as the most successful "burial" of all time. Even crazier how he went from that loss to winning the WM main event just 2 years later. In addition, he either won, defended, or fought for every available championship at each WM he competed at. He might have had the greatest "short" career of all time.

I wouldn't say nakumura is flopping yet. Bryan wasn't always cheered or anything like thhat either.

Do you think I care about how liked I am? This isn't some popularity contest. We're all a fan of wrestling, and the point of a message board is discuss your thoughts and opinions. Not everyone will have the same opinions on things, and that's what makes for good discussion. Don't like what I say? Either come up with an argument against it, or simply ignore me. You're not making yourself look any better by telling someone to stop sharing what they believe in.

"Nakamura is flopping before our eyes"

He's going to be WWE Champion in less than a week from now. And before anyone says "HES NOT GONNA WIN!", you said the same s*** before the Cena match. You guys just have this strange fetish for making indy darlings seem like underdogs.

This whole thread is doing it, actually. Daniel Bryan was Mr. Money in the Bank and World Champion within his second year in the company, and was almost always involved in a story. The way you guys talk about Bryan makes it sound like he was this massive jobber who did f*** all for years until the YES! chants started and then he was pushed to the WWE Title. In reality, he never went any lower than the Upper Midcard and was booked as a main event-level star for the majority of his run, even when he was a Tag Team Champion.

Like....do you even remember how the YES! thing started? It was part of his Heel character when he was World Heavyweight Champion. But let's disregard the fact that he won the World Title that quickly in his career because ermagerd, he lost to Sheamus in 18 seconds in a WrestleMania World Title match! MISUSE, BURIAL, THEY TRIED TO SABOTAGE HIM!!1111

It's almost as stupid as people saying the same s*** about CM Punk even though he was pushed to the moon from the beginning and achieved everything short of the actual last match at WrestleMania.

Right?

But anything to s*** on WWE and Vince McMahon.

I agree by and large. Although Punk deserved to go higher than he did by a little bit. He was the guy to ascend to Cena's spot more or less. They should have ran all the way with the angle - no del Rio loss, no HHH loss, just a straight up Austin push to the moon

This never happened. They always pushed him well, even had him as a leader of Nexus but had to fire him due to outside circumstances. Even then they brought him back as a big deal and he was constantly in storylines and winning midcard championships. Then he won MitB and was a world champion before any of his 'Super overness'.

They never kept him down and the other indy guys didn't get a bigger push.

He made it, because of a chant he stole. I still laugh when people deny this. Yes he himself had something to do with it obviously, but it was a lot of factors. Him, the chant, the company forcing Orton/Batista, Roman getting his push, etc. It was more a perfect storm of things.

And then he got injured and it was all for naught.

I don't agree with this.

Bryan was over before the chant, someone else already mentioned he was world champion when the chant started.

And while the chant got over HUGE and mae him more popular. It was his skill that kept him over. Not the chant.

Think about it, think how quickly chants and fads die out. WWE literally compared the Yes Chant to Fandangoing on air. Think of how many catchphrases or chants last a short amount of time and then just die.

People like Yes and No so much for such a long time because they liked Bryan so much. That's why it thrived, that's why when Brie Bella tried to adopt it the crowd rarely joined in at least without any gusto.

Saying Bryan made it and got over because of the Yes chant is like saying The Rock got over because "If you Smell what the Rock is cooking"
